Acid. Strong acid.

And what happens when it eventually gets to the metal pipes further along the sewerage system?

by then it'll all have reacted, or been diluted to the point of insignificance.

although pretty sure it's still illegal because of pollution laws.

hey you're still in secondary school aren't you?

Drink the HCl to freak people out (it's only like 0.01 molar so it changes indicator paper) just gives you a dry mouth, tastes funky :p

Do check it doesn't say .conc on the bottle first though :p

In a lot of our AS experiments we used conc HCL, and we'll probably do it for A2 as well, so not a good idea :p

Though, if I'm sure it's diluted, I'm sure it could become an awesome chemistry party trick :D

For the Chemistry stand at Fresher's Fayre last year we had a few litres of liquid nitrogen, great way to freak out most people! You can dip your hand in it for a few seconds, seems to scare people.

I just smelt a chemical we were using and got a 20 min bollocking and detention . It smelt like bubblegum so I couldn't resist.

Do you use "sulfuric" acid in your "math" class? :p

(the American spellings grate on me, because 1) I was forced to use them as a kid as I had an American chemistry teacher, 2) people laugh at me here because I still say some of the chemical names American-style and 3) we're forced to use them not in international research papers/conferences!)

I think I need some of this acid for my sink waste pipe. Tried mr muscle and it did nothing. £4 literally down the drain :(.

I can remember making up Chromic Acid for deep cleaning of glassware, now that is something you want to give a bit of respect!

yeah its annoying - i kept on using sulphuric for years and years but now even if i have to buy a chemical in the Uk its sulfuric and sulfate etc..
stupid americans.

I use conc. nitric and sulphuric occasionally.

I never used them much since hearing horror stories of people inhaling too much NO2 fumes and suddenly dying a few days later.
Also, diluted sulphuric is quite handy for cleaning waterblocks.
