Hi guys .
is it possible to conect a set of Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers to a amp ? or will something go BANG

The answer is no. You could connect the sats to an amp (risking damage), but not the sub which is expecting line level input and would surely sound horrible and probably die with an amplified signal. And without the sub, just the sats would sound awful. Just no point at all.

Should have checked if they had a headphone socket before buying.

If you already have an amp, you could sell the Aego Ms and buy a pair of bookshelf speakers. Something like Kef Cresta 10s for £60 would be hard to beat.

if i where to go with some Kef Cresta 10s . would they give better sound than my Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers .i would still need to buy a amp as well .or maybe some JBL CONTROL 1 speakers .not sure if the JBLs are better than the Kef Cresta 10s .

I own a pair of JBLs Control 1's, they're not as good as the reviews would have you believe. They only go down to 70 Hz and that leaves a definite lack of bass, plus they sound a bit 'plasticy'. I've never heard Kef Cresta 10s btw, but Kef have a really good reputation and since they should retail at over £100, getting them from RS for £60 - you can't lose really.

I expect they would produce better mids/highs than the Aego Ms but they won't produce the deepest bass notes the Aego Ms sub is putting out. The bass will be perfectly fine for music, but maybe a bit lacking for the really deep rumbles in games/films.

Seems a lot to spend (on amp + speakers) if you already have the Aego Ms, just for the convenience of a headphone socket. Can you get a front drive bay for your soundcard to give you a headphone output? You could even get a 3.5 mm splitter cable, although I've read they reduce quality. Maybe your case has a headphone socket? (they connect up to some of the pins on the soundcard)

Hi
not sure if my sound card has the fittings to do this .its a Audigy 4 .i was looking at the Creative's Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro i know this would do the job but that would cost me £200 so its not cheap

There are Audigy 2 front panel drive bays available on a popular auction site for about £30 delivered (do a search for Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Drive Bay), but I've no idea whether they would work with the Audigy 4. Might be worth emailing the seller and asking.

According to the product description, the X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition has the front bay, and with the £25 cash back it's only about £110. Still a lot though for a soundcard you don't need.

Something else you can have a look at - do a google search for 'iPod Stereo Headphone Splitter Cable'. They're only a few quid so might be worth trying.

Hi guys
ok i just found this

this is what it says about it

Switch easily between your speakers, headset and microphone · Touch button audio control at your desktop · Microphone muting possible Ideal for Internet phone calls and voice recognition software · Connects to your sound card via the PC or Monitor · No extra power needed Additional connections possible for 2.5mm male plugs (e.g. mobile headset)

This mutlimedia hub allows you to have both your loudspeakers and your headset and microphone connected to your PC at all times. Now you can switch between them at the touch of a button with this handy device on your desktop.

do you think this would work ok ?

Looks like it should, and the description say it does too. Nice find :)

If you have very good headphones it's possible you may get some sort of small reduction in sound quality through using that, due to the extra connections the signal is going through and in particular because of the volume control it has, but it probably wouldn't be enough to notice. At a fiver it's got to be worth a try.
