For anyone wondering if it'd better to go with Corsair SP2500 or the Acoustic Aego M 2.1, as an owner of both, I will say the Aego M has the upperhand for music, whereas the SP2500 has the upper hand for gaming and movies.

Can't really go wrong with either as both are good all-rounder, but you can decide on which one to go for, depending on toward which direct your priority for the audio performance lies.

I think we have exactly opposing ears!

I originally liked the Aego-Ms (After auditioning my brothers setup at that time)and were my preferred choice until I heard the SP2500s which increased the bottom end and added a wider clearer soundstage that clearly is important to me, not to mention they are louder, and hold their composure at high volumes.

Still, they are a good 2.1 setup, and as with most of the popular setups, in isolation few people would ever be disappointed.. however this is audio, everything sounds different to everyone else, figuring out what your ears like is usually an expensive journey and I need to learn to stop when I'm happy.. I have zero issues btw in understanding why anyone might prefer the Aego-M over the SP2500, clearly I like my music loud and expansive.. and now having the AMP/Zensor Pico's alongside my SP2500, the difference is very stark, but there are things I still like about the SP2500, and had to add a sub to the Zensors to really get the same clean bass and scale I really enjoy.

Ooh, did someone mention a new version is coming? I hope they move the volume to satellites or remotely, it's a tad tricky if you tuck the sub out the way, but you can use the windows volume if you need to.

These were reviewed by what hi-fi back in 2006 @ £130 erm .... charging more for a sound that probably well beaten these days is abit much imo . And I've owned them myself ( bought from ocuk in roughly 2007/2008 ) .

The one good plus side still is the build quality. Very heavy small speakers.

p.s. yes I know what price others are selling at .... so your all the same lol .... still overpriced

Wish I could go lower on the Price but got to stick with strict pricing from the manufacturer.

Info on the new Aego 3 system

http://www.whathifi.com/news/acoustic-energy-returns-versatile-aego-3-system

Comes in 2 forms it looks like . Soundbar / sub , or 2 speakers / sub. Both at same price tho

" Aego 3 will get an official public launch at the Bristol Sound & Vision Show in February."

We have not discussed any new products yet as we have just set the account back up and we will be meeting in Feb to launch new products. That is one of the products we are interested in an it looks amazing and hopefully we will get to test some to give you guys some input directly rather than a review online.

FYI our buy price in 2006 was £50 a unit it's a lot more than that now, I de-listed them 2 years ago because I knew no one on these forums would take a price hike upto 199.99 that the new disti was trying to enforce.

This is a new Direct relationship Rob has opened up with Acoustic energy so who knows what it will bring for the future.

I'm sure Rob will do his best to match our old price in the future.

The thing is while the SP2500 satelites have wider soundstage (this is what I find as well), but I find the low bass of the sub for the SP2500 to be more loose and lack control compairing to the sub of the Aego M...which is one of the reason when I said it is better for gaming and movie, particular with it using lower frequency such as the effect sounds than the Aego M sub. The Aego M has tighter, more refine bass.

I'm not sure when you said brother's SP2500 sounds better for music if you were having both sitting next to one another playing back and forth to directly compare, or if when you were going by memory comparing to what you remember the Aego M sound like.

Yes the SP2500 has higher power output, and would be better for things like a house party, but for personal listening if turning up the volume and listening from a distance, it start to lose it advantage of the imagine size/soundstage that it has a near field listening.

One of the benefit of the Aego M is the ability to upgrade the satelites speakers to other passive speakers, the SP2500 on the other hand use proprietary connection looks like PCI-E connectors but with 4-pins, so no swapping speakers with that.

Aego 3 looks sweet.

Just sold my SP2500's as am lacing in desk space at the moment but am moving house soon so hopefully the new Aego 3's are out by then and are favourable as they are on my want list.

[edit] Rather than potentially derail the thread.. I do like the look of the Aego 3 soundbar, be interesting to see how good a job they do!

still using my old Aego M system.
I got them years ago, i think from OcUK - still good quality.

I always wondered if its worth getting a centre speaker since it has the output??

The thing about 3.1 on the Aego M is that you'd need to connect the center speaker input to the center speaker jack of the PC/soundcard, you'd need to set the speakers to 5.1 mode, and the low bass frequency would be pass over the center channel not the front left and right channel, as the jack is center/sub. I'm not sure if Aego M sub can accept the sub signal via the center speaker input or not.

I have recently replaced the satelites of my Aego M with a pair of Wharfedalle Diamond 9.0, and it now sound even better and with a larger soundstage :p I might experiment with hooking the sub up with my Q Acoustics 3010 next and see how it'd sound :D

hmmm interesting, didn't know the sub signal goes through the centre channel.

i never thought about replacing the satellites - i always assumed that there wouldn't be enough power or that the balance would be off.
I do have a pair of jbl control 1's sitting in a box doing nothing, i might give them a try.

edit: come to think of it i also have some mission 780's knocking around but i doubt my desk is big enough for that!

For most active 2.1 speakers setup, it has a default crossover frequency of 120Hz...so bascially if hooking a pair of passive speakers up to the sub, the speakers will only be outputting frequency of 120Hz and above. And since the speakers is not outputting full range for the frequency, it is not as power demanding as when they are typically going all the way down to its minimum frequency response at below 120Hz.

Having listened to these I'd say that they are very overpriced from a sound quality standpoint. They aren't amazing. They are good, but they aren't amazing.

They are built like £150 speakers, really good build quality, but they don't sound like £150 speakers...

As in that review linked above, they were said to be a bit lacking in the mid range, and that was a decade ago!
