** Acoustic Energy Aego M Speakers are Coming Back at New Lower Price !!!! **

Having listened to these I'd say that they are very overpriced from a sound quality standpoint. They aren't amazing. They are good, but they aren't amazing.

They are built like £150 speakers, really good build quality, but they don't sound like £150 speakers...

As in that review linked above, they were said to be a bit lacking in the mid range, and that was a decade ago!
What soundcard/DAC are you using?

I have listened to these on various:

Xonar Essence ST(X)
Xonar DS
Soundblaster Audigy
Soundblaster XtremeMusic
And via a Marantz Hi-Fi amp.

They would be good £79.99 speakers, but I'm not convinced they are worth £149.99... Especially when they could be had for less than that 10 years ago, and the design hasn't changed!

For most active 2.1 speakers setup, it has a default crossover frequency of 120Hz...so bascially if hooking a pair of passive speakers up to the sub, the speakers will only be outputting frequency of 120Hz and above. And since the speakers is not outputting full range for the frequency, it is not as power demanding as when they are typically going all the way down to its minimum frequency response at below 120Hz.

i was thinking more about volume and whether there would be a volume difference between the satellites and the sub if i changed the satellites. i.e. different speaker sensitivities.

Good news guys after listening to your input and taking it into account I have spoken to our suppliers and we have been able to drop the price to £129.95.

The speakers will be arriving at the end of the week and are now available for Pre-order.

Well that calls me out then doesn't it. Guess I'll have to get a set ordered.

Great news, my old Aego's died sometime ago and I've been looking at getting new speakers.
I love these but if the Aego 3's are coming out I might just spring for those instead :p.

That's a really good price. Well done OcUK. :D

There's no chance they will ever be as low as they were back in 2008 or so, but £130 is still a very good price and a damn sight better than the ridiculous £200 that another distributor wanted them sold at.

Agreed I think the new Price we have got is at the right point as the speakers are definitely worth it. We will not be able to hit 2008 as they had a massive price drop on them.

The thing about 3.1 on the Aego M is that you'd need to connect the center speaker input to the center speaker jack of the PC/soundcard, you'd need to set the speakers to 5.1 mode, and the low bass frequency would be pass over the center channel not the front left and right channel, as the jack is center/sub. I'm not sure if Aego M sub can accept the sub signal via the center speaker input or not.

I have recently replaced the satelites of my Aego M with a pair of Wharfedalle Diamond 9.0, and it now sound even better and with a larger soundstage :p I might experiment with hooking the sub up with my Q Acoustics 3010 next and see how it'd sound :D

Interested in maybe doing 3.1 aswell with these. I have the Asus Xonar Essence sound card, which only has 2 RCA connectors, so how would I hookup the center speaker? Is it even possible?

Cheers!

I'm assuming you have just the Essence sound card without the add on daughter board. Assuming that is correct, then you can't connect up a centre speaker to the Aego M, because the Essence has only stereo outputs. The add on board is used for allowing up to 7.1 speakers to be connected.

I don't understand at all why Acoustic Energy included the centre speaker connection. No sound card has 3.1 output, unless of course there was a sound card that had 3.1 output option around 2006 when the Aego's were released. I've never seen that on an X-Fi though, and that was around that time.

I briefly had a set of these and they're let down by the same thing all sub/sat sets struggle with - an obvious transition from highs to lows. Don't get me wrong they're good but they sound artificial because there's a big hole in the mid frequencies.

Yeah, you are correct. Ah I see, Yeah fair enough! thanks for the response. So to get it to work, I would have to get the sister card basically then?

Hi,

Some bad news regarding the Aego 3's as they have a delay in manufacturing meaning these could be delayed till the end of May.

I will keep you posted closer to the date.

Hi all, I have had the Aego M 2.1 speakers ever since they came out years ago. I think they sound great and never had any issues.
Anyway... to my question. After a spring clean I disconnected and moved all my computer gear around and now I am wondering... since I upgraded to windows 10...
What sample rate and bit depth should I set the onboard soundcard? its a VIA HD audio build into my asus mobo. I have a core i7 cpu.
I currently have it set to 16 bit, 96000Hz but the settings go up to 24 bit, 192000Hz.
at which level will I benefit most and at which point will the benefit be lost due to the Aego speakers not being studio quality, especially as they are sub sat combo.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Please note I want the best settings for the equipment that I have, I am not planning on buying a dedicated sound card.
