Acoustic Energy Aego3 - New replacement for the Aego M

Are you sure they're not advertising them as for sale but actually on pre-order?

Well one site says in stock in green writing. They have 525 reviews on trust pilot and are rated 9/10.

I imagine they must have them.

Google mate and you will see. Can only find two sites listing them at the moment.

Thanks, that was the one I was thinking of and previously they were only offering pre-order. I think that's a very recent change to availability.

OCUK need to send someone a set and have them review them.

I remember listening to the original version 25+ years ago, I wanted them to take to Uni, my speakers at home were way too big.......and they still sell them today.

I always thought that they were overpriced back then, now I guess with inflation £130 is cheap........

You guys may laugh, I have some Microlab 360's they cost £40 I think, they are not HiFi standard but for £40 they are amazing, EOL now and the replacement I do not like the look of.......
I tried some Trust Vigor Speakers recently, after reading reviews, but they do not meet my expectations, hence considering these new Aego's...........but I agree Nate £200 is high.

Ordered some of these today. Couldn't wait, can't handle the built in speakers in the monitor any longer!

Plus it feels like I've been waiting for things forever, what with these and the fabled MacBook pros that now don't look like they're being released until the end of the year, needed some retail therapy.

Received a phonecall from the retailer today.

Despite showing as "available" on the website (and accepting orders), they are very much "unavailable" and not expected from AE until the end of the month

The wait continues... ugh. :(

Happy me! They finally arrived...

They look and sound beautiful! The build quality is every bit as good as the old Aego M's, and they really look premium.

I have the sub hooked up to an Airport Express, via a digital connection, allowing me to send music over Airplay to the speakers. To me, they sound incredible. I know purists will probably be having a heart attack right now, but I'm really not audiophile enough to notice the difference between wired and wireless audio. They already sound brilliant, I'm sure some would say they're even better wired directly to an audio source.

You do have the option of Bluetooth, which obviously I do not need to use in my situation. But, it's there if you need it.

The remote control is very light and plasticy, but I don't think it's in danger of falling apart in my hands. It's worth noting (as stated in the manual) the remote is the only control you have over the sub. The front control is not touch screen, and there are no knobs to be found. Do not lose the remote! You have been warned.

Sound quality, to my untrained ear, is exceptional. I owned the Aego M's over five years ago now, so a direct comparison is impossible. But, for the size of the satellites, the quality of sound they produce is quite astounding. I pretty much knew it would be, having owned the Aego M's, so no surprises there. The sound is beautifully clear and crisp, and the highs shine through. As with the originals, the quality of sound being produced really does belie their small size. If you've not owned a paid of these speakers before, you will be absolutely blown away by the richness and grandeur of sound these diminutive speakers can produce.

The bass from the sub is adjustable to four levels. For my taste (again as suggested by the manual), a setting of 2/3 is appropriate for my room. It is incredibly powerful and you will not be left wanting. Volume wise, I don't tend to listen to my music full blast often, very rarely in fact. But I cranked it up high enough that it was starting to hurt my ears without any noticeable distortion, either from the sub or the satellites.

Tl;dr - these are every bit the worthy successor to the original Aego M's. The styling is classy, the build quality is great, the sound is phenomenal. I am delighted to finally have a pair of AE sitting on my desk again.

If anyone wants me to get any particular photos - or just want the high res versions of the above, or has any questions you want to know about them feel free to let me know.

Update on these... I didn't notice this yesterday because there was a lot of background noise going on in my house, but there is a very noticeable hiss coming through the satellites when the system is on (regardless of whether there is music playing or not).

I've contacted both the retailer and AE, so will have to see what they say about it. If they say it's normal, then I won't be able to keep them, it's that bad.

That can't be normal. With the volume increased, you should maybe get a faint hiss that you can hear close up when nothing is playing. When there is audio playing, you shouldn't hear any hiss at all.

Volume is down very low, and the hiss is audible both when no music is playing, and when I start playing something.

So disappointing, I've been waiting for so long for these only to have to send them back.
