Happy me! They finally arrived...
They look and sound beautiful! The build quality is every bit as good as the old Aego M's, and they really look premium.
I have the sub hooked up to an Airport Express, via a digital connection, allowing me to send music over Airplay to the speakers. To me, they sound incredible. I know purists will probably be having a heart attack right now, but I'm really not audiophile enough to notice the difference between wired and wireless audio. They already sound brilliant, I'm sure some would say they're even better wired directly to an audio source.
You do have the option of Bluetooth, which obviously I do not need to use in my situation. But, it's there if you need it.
The remote control is very light and plasticy, but I don't think it's in danger of falling apart in my hands. It's worth noting (as stated in the manual) the remote is the only control you have over the sub. The front control is not touch screen, and there are no knobs to be found. Do not lose the remote! You have been warned.
Sound quality, to my untrained ear, is exceptional. I owned the Aego M's over five years ago now, so a direct comparison is impossible. But, for the size of the satellites, the quality of sound they produce is quite astounding. I pretty much knew it would be, having owned the Aego M's, so no surprises there. The sound is beautifully clear and crisp, and the highs shine through. As with the originals, the quality of sound being produced really does belie their small size. If you've not owned a paid of these speakers before, you will be absolutely blown away by the richness and grandeur of sound these diminutive speakers can produce.
The bass from the sub is adjustable to four levels. For my taste (again as suggested by the manual), a setting of 2/3 is appropriate for my room. It is incredibly powerful and you will not be left wanting. Volume wise, I don't tend to listen to my music full blast often, very rarely in fact. But I cranked it up high enough that it was starting to hurt my ears without any noticeable distortion, either from the sub or the satellites.
Tl;dr - these are every bit the worthy successor to the original Aego M's. The styling is classy, the build quality is great, the sound is phenomenal. I am delighted to finally have a pair of AE sitting on my desk again.
If anyone wants me to get any particular photos - or just want the high res versions of the above, or has any questions you want to know about them feel free to let me know.
