Acronis ghost onto SSD - Alignment?

Shiny new C300 arrived. I have a hardrive stored in my PC with a 'work ready' image, Photoshop installed and updated, wacom drivers etc. Something that if my main drive failed I can just boot into it and keep working until I can replace the OS drive.

Also means if I upgrade my OS drive I can just throw the new image on it and away we go. However I've read about something to do with alignment and need to do something different when ghosting to an SSD?

First of all, I've taken it out of the box and set bios to AHCI mode, anything else I should do at this stage before the ghost process? Should I plug it in and check the firmware perhaps? Is it easier to update the firmware before I start using it as the OS drive?

I'm using Acronis for the ghosting, have used it many times without issues.

A good post here about alignment and something I was going to use as a guide unless there is a better/easier way? http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81373

Cheers.

If you plug it in as a data drive and create your placeholder partition (Win7 > drive management) it'll set the correct alignment.

Then pull out old HDD, put SSD as primary boot and tell your imaging software to use that partition without destroying it.

Firmware is the latest, that's good to know. Cheers fluff.

Echo: Sounds like a much easier procedure. I'l give it a whirl, thanks :)
