I just installed a brand new scorpio black 500GB drive into my laptop and tried to restore a successful acronis backup I made in november. But after loading acronis boot disk, selecting the backup, selecting destination and clicking 'proceed' I instantly get 'recovery failed'. The old drive is a toshiba 500GB with reallocated sectors. I created the backup to my seagate 2TB drive which was in a USB enclosure. The backup was validated last night by acronis so any idea why it doesn't restore?
Currently I'm trying an alternative method. I've put the old toshiba drive in the USB box and am doing a clone of it to the scorpio, don't know if it'll work though, got another half an hour to go.
edit: amazing, it worked. Such clever technology, it's like nothing ever changed on my laptop.
Crystal disk gives a thumbs up to my new Scorpio Black, and I'd better register it with WD like I did with my Caviar Black, they're both 5 years warranty I think.
Still don't get why it it didn't restore though from the backup. I might try a new backup of this new drive and see if it will restore.
