I Did a full backup of a failing 128 ssd drive, and Im trying to restore it to a 120gb ssd but it wont let my do this as the 120gb ssd is grayed out. Its mad as the backup of the 128gb drive has only 40gb worth of data on it.

So I then had another idea, to restore it to a 320gb hdd and then cloning it to the 120gb sdd. But it wont do that either, because as soon as it starts to clone from hdd to sdd, it just says its failed.

So Im running out of ideas now, so I need your help... What can I do?

try macrium reflect to clone it across,

I tried that and it failed after about 20secs of cloning and Ive tried the samsung cloning software but it all just fails:mad:

Ive just changed the sata cables as I thought it could be a damaged lead, but still the same. Ive even down graded the motherboard bios, but still no joy. So my next idea is to see if it will clone if I connect it to my pc.

Its odd, because ive even tried my spare 64gb ssd and it wont clone to that either. Ive tried installing windows and that installs fine to the 120gb ssd:(

Its a samsung basic 120gb ssd btw

you know in acronis it lets you convert the backup image to a windows 7 image, could try that then try restoring it to the ssd

have you wiped the original drive? you could just clone it to a spare hdd and back again

After hrs and hrs of trying to get it to clone, it has finally done it,, and I think the problem was, because the old ssd was failing, when I made the backup, it had errors, cos chkdsk found errors in the backup after I had restored it to my spare drive, So I guess thats why it wouldn't clone across.

But Im still amazed the hdd wouldn't clone to the ssd with errors tho?... Thanks for the suggestion wazza300, much appreciated mate
