Rather than take the Ukraine thread off topic I thought I'd start a separate thread on funny acronyms.

I was today years old when I realised ATACMS is an acronym for "attack them's". Yes I'm slow.

That’s 5km in a day if they are at the southern end. That’s good progress if they are holding the territory, maintaining supply lines, dealing with mines etc. The key thing is if they can hold what they have whilst minimising casualties and continuing to push, even if slow.

I'll throw in another, although it's not really an acronym. While I was working at a bank in the 2000's they introduced a new intranet, meant to help with the transformation of the company and exchange of ideas. Some bright spark had the great idea to start the web page addresses with... https://transexchange.

As pointed out in my opening sentence, it was created to stop another thread going off topic as we started talking about acronyms etc there. So not pointless. Even if this thread dies a horrible death the point was to keep the other thread on topic and move discussion here.

Old story, but in the 1980's there was a PC company called 'Wang Computers'. Allegedly their service arm was to be called Wang Care until the UK sales force couldn't stop laughing during meetings.

At my old gov job, time would be taken to try to get the most inappropriate sounding package names/ stored procedure names/ app names, that would then be shortened at which point oh my... lol.

Gawker reports the rumour-bashing site Is Twitter Wrong (run by @flashboy) managed to track down the original tweet from Susan's account, which was hastily changed to #SusanBoylesAlbumParty.
