What are peoples thoughts on them?

I was looking through the Loxley catalogue yesterday and stumbled across them. I'm especially interested in the idea of the Aluminium print but haven't seen any in the flesh. Do they all look good or some exceedingly tacky? I like the idea of having a couple of photos on the wall without a frame.

Not specifically asking about Loxley here, I know there are loads of others that do these.

I tried a few things from one place ages ago. I had a landscape printed on a kind of board with acrylic over the front. It wasn't cheap but the results were quite nice :) I think it's 24"x9" and that around £70 something!

I also had another little photo printed on the smallest square of some other material. Think it ended up being something like 4"x4" or thereabouts and the finish was matt so it was a bit odd. I'm not sure the photo suited the material but I guess it depends on the shot.

Both materials seemed to be what reminded me of formica which they used for false walls on ships when I was in the Navy :/

I've wanted to try the aluminium for ages.....i think it is just printed on paper mounted on a metal back ?

Ah, ok. Makes sense. I did wonder how they printed on aluminium.

The other one I saw on loxley was wood printing. Not sure a piece of hardboard with a photo on is the best look though...!

Tempted to buy a couple though as they have 40% one of each type at loxley at the moment.

Phal, I think kind of photo is probably very important in all these things, makes it a bit more difficult too. I actually get print on two types of paper depending on whether it's colour or B&W. I could go even crazier and get prints on several other types depending on style but thought two types was enough for continuity! I could definitely see the same happening here...

I was looking to use the Aluminum backed for food images in our stores. I just wonder if the image is coated for easy wiping,

I have a loxley Aluminuim in my studio. It looks great. Very much like a contemporary canvas. Sits proud of the wall, edge-to-edge and the image quality is better as there is no fabric grain. Looks very much like the image is printed directly onto the ali.

I did not go for the print with the metal grain showing through as that (to my mind) looks like a 1980's Indian restaurant decoration.

I like it, it sells. But t.b.h. I sell far more frames.

Alu prints from them is not paper then stuck on.

They gas transfer the image onto the metal, so it's embedded into it, they are the only company using this method as far as I'm aware, and as far as the pretty lady from Loxley told me. So no fade, amazingly sharp detail, I've seen two in the flesh and have been stunned either way.

I was going to order a large 6ft pano in one...but never got round to it.

A 6ft aluminium print would need an epicly large resolution image. It sounds like it'll need a high resolution print rather than getting away with 100dpi prints like canvas.
