Activision Allows COD: Black Ops Dedicated Servers but There’s a Catch

I don't think pirating software is in the same league as stealing. I'm not depriving anyone of anything. If the option of pirating Black Ops wasn't there then I certainly wouldn't go out and buy the game. Incidentally I've made quite a few purchases based on my impression of a game after pirating it. If it's pants then I delete it. If it's good then I'll buy it. There's the odd few (like a few recent Activision releases) that aren't bad but the behaviour of parties involved makes handing over money a little difficult.

+1 Yet I think a step further and think any CoD game isn't even worth pirating and leaving my computer on to download.

This is as messed up as the BC2 dedicated server support was. Sure, it doesn't affect most of you but for us living in countries gameservers.com has no support for, it means the closest servers to us are thousands of miles away. 50ms latency is not what I expect from dedicated servers but it is what I'm going to get as that's the closest server to my location. The same problem was true with BC2 as EA didn't give a single Finnish provider access to BC2 server files.

In my books, this game has no dedicated server support and neither does BC2.

Errr....50ms ping is actually quite good...?

Nah, it's not when you've played with 5-20ms pings for 12 years. Back then, going from 70ms ISDN connection to a proper connection was a huge revelation and going backwards over a decade later is not something I'm planning to do. And neither should anyone else.

Activision are the *********, not Infinity Ward and not Treyarch, so it's nice to know you don't think you have to pay for something that the developers of the game have actually gotten up and gone to work every day to produce.

It's not like the get paid properly even if you do buy the game though... allegedly.
