Activity and Temperature issues.

I'm having some problems with my MSI 6850 1GB's activity levels and temperature when my machine is completely idle.

I tried to open Catalyst Control Centre yesterday and it wouldn't so I decided to upgrade my drivers as it's been a bit since I had. I got the 13.4 package and it installed fine. CCC now opens but it's showing temperatures of 83C+ and activity of 65%+ while my machine is doing nothing.

It has dropped one or twice to 0% activity and the temp starts to drop right away but then they both pick back up.

I haven't been using the machine for much lately so haven't noticed any problems and obviously I couldn't open CCC to see if it was doing it before the change of drivers. Should I try using some older drivers or is there something actually using my card in the background? I used task manager to close everything other than windows processes and that didn't change anything.

I had a quick look to see if there was a problem with the heatsinks connection to the board or anything similar but couldn't see anything obvious.

Thanks in advance.

Might not be this. But I sure i read about a virus that makes the gpu work under idle. Maybe scan with anti virus software and malwarebytes.

Thank you! Absolute hero.

Had like 2 bitcoin things running that I never knew about, malwarebytes got rid of them and some other hidden away gems and it's back down to 0% activity and 40C.

Now I'm just worried how long they've been running for and where I got them.

Ive had that virus a couple of times now. As I have explained before, I am a fan of the newsgroups for games as a "try before I buy" so its got to where I picked them up from. Just to add that after 20 minutes of a game if I like it I buy. If not its uninstalled straight away. I do not condone piracy in any way but until they give me a way of seeing if £40 for a game is justified, which it rarely is btw, I shall continue my questionable practice.

Glad it's sorted :D
