actors that you really like

Charlize Theron
Scarlett Johansson

and not just because they’re pretty faces. Two genuinely great actresses who ensure that I’ll watch a film if they’re in it. I can’t say that about many actors or actresses
Theron in particular is one of the best actions stars around right now, she just needs a really top film to be lead in. Lots of films that weren't quite there. Only Fury Road was great and she kind of shared the lead in that one.

Daniel Day-Lewis
Clint Eastwood
Paddy Considine
Robin Williams
Joaquin Phoenix
Harrison Ford
Natalie Portman
Cate Blanchett
Rooney Mara

Those are mine off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s a few more.

Anything with these in but it doesn't necessarily mean I'll stick with the film if it bores me

Denziel Washington
Tom Hanks
Morgan Freeman
Samuel Jackson
Keanu Reeves
Jason Statham
Tom Cruise
Dwayne Johnson
Tom Hardy
Nicholas Cage
Ryan Reynolds

Just to jump onto the Denzel love-train we're having in here, he's one of only two actors I would see even if was just a camera on their face for two hours, with the other being Daniel Day Lewis. Both have an "X-Factor" for me which elevates them above other actors right now.

Outside of those two, whilst there's a raft of other actors I enjoy watching, none quite get to that "must see everything they do" level for me, even if I rate them very highly as actors (DeCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Mads Mikkelsen etc).

Gary Oldman
Was having to scroll through the thread there as I couldn't believe nobody had mentioned him. Absolutely amazing actor. A lot of other good names suggested. Somebody I don't think has been mentioned so far are Robert Pattinson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, both great youngish actors I've been increasingly impressed with and also Ana de Armas and not just for the obvious reasons.

My guilty pleasures are Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson, might not have the acting skills of the others, but they have a charisma that can allow them to carry films that would otherwise be complete duds (particularly Johnson).

In a similar vain Vin Diesel to a certain degree, but he's a disappointment acting wise, because he is great in Saving Private Ryan, but he seems to have decided to take his career away from serious roles.

Also, completely forgot about Karen Gillan, she actually can do a cracking turn as well.

Jake Gyllenhaal - one of the most consistent actors who does a variety of films.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson - thought his acting was superb in Nocturnal Animals so interested in anything he does.

Robert Pattinson - excellent in The Lighthouse and think he's one of the better actors out there at the moment.

They’re all good shouts!

Robert Pattinson has been excellent in the films I’ve watched of his since Twilight. I must be one of the few people who’ve not watched those…

I think it's a combination of strong acting with selection of films to work on.

Not always billed as the headline act either. There are some actors where they get overly promoted like Tom Hanks, and then it feels like it's "a Tom Hanks film" instead of a film in its own right.

Robin Williams, obviously could do comedy stuff but his serious roles all stuck in my head. The only actors passing who really hit me, that and Rick Myall.
