Hi there, So to cut a long story short, I downloaded something from bit torrent last night, and it was one of those files that is compressed, and you need a password of a "site" to open it blah blah, So i only found this out after extracting it... one it had extracted my taskbar, well basically the whole of explorer.exe froze up, I could change tabs in chrome. But then It bluescreened and restarted. I thought right ok, I get a bluescreen once every few months no big deal. Well turns out it was,

Now It hangs at Starting Windows, and after about 15 minutes bluescreens and restarts, So obviously I tried putting the windows 7 disc in to repair my computer. It also gets stuck, after starting windows and before it comes up with language select, it hangs on a black screen with the cursor. So this got my thinking, if I cant recover how the hell am I going to wipe this thing?

I then tried Microsoft's Windows Defender Offline, thinking it was probably a virus, and that just hangs on a blue windows logo. I have tried 2 windows 7 discs, and they both hang. What am I going to do?

I cant get any Disc to boot, not even windows, I can't repair the startup, hell I might not even be able to boot up ubuntu to backup my files.

Someone please help, Im running an OCZ 64GB SSD, and a 500GB SATA 2 3.5"

Thank you for taking the time to read, I know its lenghthy.

Im confused - if its a virus (which is what i was thinking with the torrent download etc) it wouldnt kick in until after post would it? So im confused on why you cant boot windows setup from bios?

Whats it actually doing when your pressing a 'key' when it flashes up in post?

It does boot, it just gets stuck after it loads the windows files, and hangs there for ages, now tried 3 separate discs still no luck. To your questions, Im not sure what you mean

Thanks for replying

Start by unplugging the hard drive
And boot windows of the disk and go as far as you can meaning choosing hard drive partition
If that one works plug in the hard drive and do the same steps but
DO NOT DELETE YOUR HARD DRIVE :)
We will go further after those steps

We have to see if your hard drive is faulty and will not run properly or your system is faulty
We have to get hardware out of the way
Or just boot ubuntu it is simpler

Have you tried using a different anti virus bootdisk apart from Windows Defender Offline?

Are you using an up to date version of Windows defender?

Can you get into Windows in safe mode?

Also sounds like you have snapdo.com or something similar If you can get to the desktop in safe mode, download Malwarebytes anti Malware software and Advanced Uninstaller Pro. Install AUP, click General Tools and select Uninstall Programs. Select all programs with the same time/date stamp. Uninstall and then follow the guide to remove all residual traces.
Now install Malwarebytes and scan your OS disc, this should remove any virus`s.
Good luck.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Untick the AVG box before installing.

Sorry about that. I mean are you booting straight into windows install disc from bios. As in booting from CD and trying to re-format/repair that way? and its still locking up?

Seems to me this will be the route your going to have to take unfortunately..Good luck with the virus sweeps though from the help above.

Everyone, cant thank you enough for the quick replies, Managed to get some partition software to boot, so I copied everything to my external HDD, as the windows install is only 1 month old, I just wiped it hoping that would work. Still hangs, so I did what Tres Kun suggested and took the SATA cable out of both hard drives and tried to boot from the windows CD, and it works, does this mean its a faulty SSD? Im going to try and install on my 3.5" and hope to god it works, my fear is a while back I set it to dynamic, so Im not sure how well this is going to go. Any suggestions on what I should do now?

Cheers, JoeF1

I have managed to now install windows from my 3.5" I have had this SSD since november, and was purchased from PC world, can someone recommend software to diagnose if its actually gone?

Thanks again for all your help guys!

Dan
