Hi All do u need both Ad-Aware and Spybot free software on windows 7 ? or is just one enough if so which is best ? thanks

A decent anti-virus on it's own will cover you for malware/adware anyway (e.g. ESET NOD32), so no need for either.

Windows 7 comes with Windows Defender enabled by default which will help protect against malware/spyware if you want the extra protection.

A decent anti-virus and some common sense and you'll never get infected.

thanks so Avast 5 anti virus is enough then with Windows defender ?

Yep. Avast has malware/spyware definitions as well so you may as well disable Defender, unless you're a bit paranoid.

As said above, common sense and a decent anti-virus (Avast is decent) will be more than enough.

There is no harm in running more than one as no one product is guaranteed to spot every piece of malware.

Personally I do a regular [ish :p] scan with Malwarebytes and maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks do a quick scan with Windows Defender. NOD32 I just leave to do its own scheduled scans.

I'm currently using a combo of the following 3
Microsoft security Essentials
spybot
malwarebytes

Agreed malwarebytes is fantastic, I have superantispyware also, not that I run that, that often, but I prefer to scan with two different apps incase one misses something.

Personally have been using MS security essentials, not had a single problem, ran malwarebytes last night just to see if it found anything and I was clean and clear.

No harm in doing multiple scans, but running multiple active file monitor/scanners just slows your computer down.

Also, Malwarebytes/Super Anti-spyware don't pick up everything. They didn't even have definitions for the most recent fake anti-virus 2010 suite when I last checked (not sure if they do now?).

You'll be perfectly fine with a decent anti-virus such as MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) or Eset NOD32 - they both have spyware/malware definitions anyway.

+1

MSE is all i use now.
It is just a part of Windows, like they should have done it years ago.

It has been a terrible situation over the years trying to find adequate protection just to browse the web.

At least now MS are finally addressing that mistake.

Seems to be a lot of love for MS security essentials!

Thanks for the heads up with Malwarebytes trying that out now. Iam also using Nod32 and spybot S&D :)

Was using win defender, but ive turned off the real-time protection and auto scan.

So do you switch of both real-time protection and auto scan.?

Just have the AV suite's resident shield active, nothing else and do a monthly full manual scan with the AV scanner, SpyBot and MalwareBytes as well as clean out old useless fragments with CCleaner.

Nothing else needs to be done at all security wise.

Yes. I turn defender off completely. I'm not as paranoid about security as you are as I'm not silly on the internet :p

One decent anti-virus with spyware/malware definitions (such as Eset NOD32) along with some common sense is perfectly fine.

AD-Aware has turned into a piece of slow bloatware, don’t bother with it. I still do a weekly scan with Spybot.
