A friend wants to add more wifi coverage to his house.
He has a virgin super hub in the upstairs bedroom at the one end of the house. I have run a cat5e cable from this downstairs into his office and this plugs into his dvr for his cctv.
Now is it just a case of putting a router on this cable and then patch it into the dvr? Do you have to change settings in the virgin hub?
What is required/ recommended hardware wise.

Thank you

Put a switch on the end of the cable and then the DVR and an access point Into the switch. In case it's not obvious from other threads, a Uniquiti UniFi AC Lite or Pro dependent on budget is going to be the most recommended solution. And a fine one it is too.

Thank you will take a look.
So using the aforementioned there is no setup to do?
Is that not ceiling mounted only?
So i need a switch aswel and would it need to have power over ethernet?

1. A little bit of setup, nothing taxing.
2. They are designed to be ceiling or wall mounted but there is nothing stopping you from putting it anywhere, mine is mounted on the underside of my desk.
3. You would need a switch but they are cheap, no it does not need to be POE as the AP comes with an injector which allows you power it from the mains.

If you want to save money any wireless capable router could also be used as a one box solution (would give the AP aspect and the switch aspect).

All you have to do is turn the DHCP off on the router and then connect the cable from the virgin router to any of the LAN ports on the second router.
