Addictive Game: Showjumping

Must be doing something wrong, can't get anywhere near that time. I'm just following the arrows, have knocked a few poles off...meaning i need to do more of the course perhaps?

On the 3rd one?
 
The way to do it is press the jump button mid air on the ones with 3 jumps in a row that way you can get enough air to make it past all 3. Hitting them gives you a 6s time penalty I think, but the course is still the same length.
