Have an Asus Mobo "P5LD2-VM" has an Intel 945G CHipset, and one SATA 2 Controller with 4 ports, I have two drives running on them...WD Raptor "SATA 1" and Hitachi 7K400 "SATA 1", get about 50MB/s on the WD and 40MB/s on the Hitachi for transfering large files, so 70MB file from WD to Hitachi takes just under 2 seconds...now trouble is when I add a 3rd drive, whatev it is say Seagate 250GB 7200.9 "SATA 2", the whole transfer rates of all drives slow down to a bare minimum, and now the 70MB file from WD to Hitachi takes 70 seconds to transfer..have tried running just the WD and Seagate and they both run fine about 40MB a second on the seagete so nothing wrong with it, SATA calbes are fine to..just when I run more than two it slows down completely, I mean watching HD video is jerky, anywone know the problem have I reached the limit of my SATA controller?...my PSU has enough power to run a couple more HD's and DVD drives so not a power issue, also I do not have another SATA controller to run the 3rd drive off and have no room for a PCI controller card, so was wondering if there is no way to fix this will a new Mobo with 2 controllers fix the problem, will I get full transfer speeds by running two HD's from 1 controller and the 3rd HD form the other controller...as the 2nd controller will likely be coming off the PCI-E bus so should not get any speed related issues...

It certainly sounds like a controller issue. Try out various combinations of drive placements. If that don't work then you will probably have to spend money to find a solution.
