Hey, does anyone know if its possible to add a 2nd HDD at a later date to a NAS enclosure so it is used to increase the storage.
I have a Zyxel NAS-320 arriving soon (supports Raid0, Raid1 and JBOD) and I have a Samsung 2TB F4 to put in it. Would I be able to add a 2nd 2TB drive in a few months and increase the storage to 4TB overall? or would this have to be done at the beginning?
Thanks

As you will only have 1 drive in there to begin with there won't be any problems adding another. if you want to take advantage of the RAID solutions then you will have to remove all data from the first drive, set up the RAID then put th data back on again.

So if I just put the one drive in there, do I just format it as NTFS? then if I add a 2nd drive in a few months I will be able to just use it as extra/increase storage and not as a mirror of the first without having to format the original again?

Once the drive is in there the NAS setup will run you through which file system you want the drive to be under, but yep NTFS.
When you add another drive you will be able to go into the NAS interface software and tell it how to deal with it. You can run them as 2 seperate drives if you wish to.

you will only need to format if you want to use the drives in RAID.
