adding a 780 to my simple loop

Hi Guys,

I would like to know if you think my cooling loop could support a GTX 780.

EK-D5 X-RES 140 CSQ - Acetal
XSPC D5 Vario (Body + Screwring)
Hardware Labs Black ICE Radiator SR1 240
XSPC HighFlex Hose 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD, 19/12.7mm, 2m, Clear
EK Supremacy HF CPU Block

Currently its setup as a simple CPU loop (delided and oc at 4.7ghz), and holding its temperature nicely under gaming at 45'c. This radiator is quite the fatty as i thought it would be suitable for the future addition of a gpu.

Please let me know your thoughts. fans are on lowest speeds atm

Impressive temps for the overclock. Adding a 780 will be ok, not ideal but ok.

delid was the best thing ive ever done in terms of cooling, and id recommend anyone with a steady hand (and a big pair ;)) to do so. But yeah id like to run lower temps and a better overclock with water.

id fit an extra radiator but it would have to be a dual 80mm

Black Ice Micro Dual 80mm Radiator

one of them might fit nicely and that would give me my absolute max in terms of watercooling :)

I've never seen anyone use a dual 80mm rad before. I've used 80mm fans before and they don't move much air for the noise levels.

Ive got a heavily modified Power Mac G5 case done by myself, so the most I could fit was 2x120 and 2x80. Then 2x40 for the psu lol, but it actually runs quite quiet on pwm. Most of the heat is from the gpu

That looks amazing! Such a sucker for apple products... :D

How long did it take you to mod it? Shame about lack of rad space, is that down to where you can physically mount them? (sorry for thread hijack!)

Haha no problem, btw anyone know how to make that pic smaller? Lol

It took me about 3 months just doing bit by bit. Really enjoyed it :-)

Send me a pm if u want a link to my build thread, al not post it as it's on another forum.

But yeah lack of space, could mount more but I wanted to keep the optical and mount the ssds above

wont fit on the inside :(

it will on the back, but i dont know if its actually worth the hastle and it will look crap on the back too.

going to see how far i can overclock this new gtx 780 of mine and see if i think water would allow it to go that little bit further and if not see if it would make it quieter

Same place I've used them lol. Though I managed much more rad space in my mod. ;)

Opticals are as bad as floppy drives IMO lol. And yeah, used a regular ATX PSU in the top right.

i just wanted to keep aesthetics the same, keeping the likes of the optical (blu-ray) and especially the original PSU enclosure.

but what a nice job you have done, so many are done poor but yours is fantastic! i love mine, certain things i wish i had done looking back but its great.

So back on track, a 780 will be ok on a single radiator? or do i modify that dual 80mm to fit? so that i have the max cooling i can. on a side note, what radiator are you using on the front?

Thanks. :) Nice to see another watercooled one, especially with that window!

I'm gonna say yes, you'd be fine adding the GPU to the loop. It will get a little warmer, but still within the thermal limits. I know a guy who ran 2 590s (4 GPUs) on a 240 rad without issues, so a 780 and a processor will be fine.

I think the 2x80mm rad will add too much clutter to your build and not really give you that much performance.

Mines an Alphacool Monsta 360 btw.

cheers for the help mate, I'm going sell my current 760 then see what funds are available. if i were to get the 160mm radiator i would need to modify it anyways so will have to see how it goes. don't mind buggering it for about £30 :D

and that monsta is a monsta!

I have a 780 + 3770 in a single loop powered by a D5, with an XSPC 360mm rad (though only 2 fans at very low RPM on it). Keeps it nice & cool no issues, although I'm not clocking. Was considering an extra 120mm when I put the 780 on but then I just let the mobo controller turn the second fan on instead (was running on only one fan before with the 560!)

thanks for the feedback, mines a very similar setup only 240 instead of 360. my cpu is lapped giving me my low temperatures under use so I'm hoping it should be OK.

i ended up with a 780 Ti with a nice ebay bid, its now installed and water-cooled and running at a fair temp never exceeding 50 on Heaven or gaming.

But i have a daft question, how full should the Tube Res be? i have it just short of an inch away from full, its an EK X-Res 140mm.

cheers

Thats ok, as long as its got coolant in your fine.
