What would be the best way to operate a blog? My current website is in html and wondering whether its worth running the blog on a seperate site (blogspot or something?) and then linking from my site to their?

Or would installing something like wordpess be the best option?

Dont really want to redo my whole website if possible.

Thanks

linky to website?
blogspot/hosted wordpress blog would be easisest.

wordpress install would do the most, and at a push I reckon you could use WP as a cms for your website

Can I link to my website? Without breaking any rules?

Would using a hosted solution have any advantage from an inbound links perspective? Having just set it up Im struggling to get many at the moment.

Provided it's not promotional. :)

Website is www.mmassociates.co.uk

Appologies about the tables, Ive actually got a test site running using divs so that will be online shortly.

Think I will d/l wordpress and have a play with it but really dont have the time to tfr over all the site to WP.

Well, not quite going to plan. WP is installed and working fine but trying to get it to intergrate with my site it showing up my lack of css knowledge sadly!!

Could anyone have a look here and point me in the right direction?

It seems its something to do with the positioning as its overlapping as apposed to stacking underneath each other? But thats as far as my diagnostics goes...

Thanks.

Not sure if its the correct way but Ive got it to do nearly what I want it to do by adding the top:469px into the wrapper style?

To be honest, I can't see why you don't just use Wordpress for the whole install. If you base your own theme from the supplied twentyten theme using something called a child theme, you could do so so much more with your site. A lot of accessability issues could be fixed, you could track useage stats, and updating the whole site would be so much easier!
As you obviously have managed a WP install it seems a bit silly to just use it to power a blog, why not the whole site?

Its more a time thing than anything else at the moment, Ive been building that site for weeks a half hour here and there when time allows. Im working full time and trying to do that on the side so I really dont have time to learn how to use WP and then cusomtise the whole site to get it looking the way I want it to.

As Im sure you can tell my HTML and css knowledge is limited to working things out in Dreamweaver and the odd search on w3c or on here.

I get all that, but once it's up and running you'll be able to update it and much more with WP. I'm busy for the next 3 weeks otherwise I'd knock up a template for you. However, 90% of what you have made can be achieved using the supplied twentyten theme, you can change the custom header to your own pic etc. etc. Reposting the text should take all of a leisurely half hour with a coffee. You'd gain backup facilities, the massive library of plugins that WP supports and you can always work towards a new theme over time and then implementing it is a few mouse clicks....

Just my 2p's worth....if I wasn't busy I'd look at making you a theme, but I reckon I'd be pushed to do anything for nearly a month...

Tell you what, I'll knock up a theme for you to use, all I ask is a credit and link back to my blog! Does that sound fair?

Wow thats incredibly generous of you to offer and I'd certainly link back to your blog.

Im in no huge hurry to get things over to WP so just do it when you have time. Im just trying to get familiar with the way WP works at the moment and given the time constraints it looks like it may take some time.

It could take some time, however in the long run I believe it's worth it...
Drop us an email on my gmail account and just outline what you're after, and I can get some stuff up and running...

Hope you don't mind the hi-jack

I bought some webspace from vidahost a while back to make a personal profile website. I've tried to get some basic php website designs via the net & tried to work on them via Dreamweaver. I'm having no luck on getting a design I like or getting images to look good or what to add :(

Is it possible that someone can design a nice looking personal site for me? & in exchange you can add a link/banner to my site to your site.

If you are designing with Photoshop to start with have a look at this its got some really cool tutorials on getting a nice layout to start with. But if you haven't got anything to put on your site then you will always have the same problem :p I personally think you have to be in a somewhat vain frame of mind to fill up a whole site about yourself :D

I think the best practice once you have an idea of what you want to put on it is to:

1.) Design it in photoshop, creating a few template pages to get started with keeping a note of font sizes and families etc.
2.) Cut out the bits the must be images and build up an HTML template for each different layout. this is a nice tutorial on this
3.) Then start on coding the PHP to give your site stateful content and dabble with some Javascript/ JQuery to add fancy effects.
