Adding a sub

I posted this in Sound City but wasn't getting much of a response.

At the moment I'm using some Edifier R1600 Plus bookshelfs with an Asus Xonar DS 7.1.

Is it possible to add an active sub at a later date? If so, how?

I was expecting my movies and games to be lacking bass when I bought these speakers, but I'm starting to miss it now

What sort of budget setup would anyone suggest?

How about adding an av amp? Then you can add a sub + other speakers as you go. I have a denon 1306 for sale if your interested.

Would it make sense to get rid of my Edifiers and buy an amp and better bookshelf speakers. That way I could add a sub later?

I have no idea on the prices of speakers or amps.

In the long term yes you will get much better sound quality using an amp and speakers/sub. Second hand 5.1 av amp £70. Speakers anywhere from £30 to a couple of hundred depends on your budget.

Definatly go with selling the speakers and buying an AV amp and some decent speakers. Give me a shout as I have a few things for sale
