Can anyone spec me how much it would cost to get a turbo fitted to a standard 1.8 Focus. Or is there any point? Please be honest. I have about 700 quid to spend on Performance mods.... Thanks

no point, 700 quid would NOT get you a turbo installed and set up properly. Sell and buy a faster car with the money is the best bet tbh :)

Parts alone would be that. easily or even more. then you need to pay for fitting and tuning.

Modding the 1.8 is completely pointless. £700 would get you about 20BHP and even that's optimistic..

You'd be better off selling for a 2.0.

No point at all. I would spend a wee bit money lowering it and some nice speakers in. Maybe a nice set of alloys with better tyres.

It's not always about the power.

A GT25 turbo kit for the Zetec-E is about £1400, you would be looking at another £400 for fitting; tuning would probably take a while. I'll echo the rest of the comments, don't bother.

The 1.8's bottom end is weak, so is the gearbox, you'll need the 2l box or even better, rs (indestructible) box. or cheaper would be to get a complete 2l setup. i wouldn't say modding the 1.8 is completely pointless. But there is a point where you have to stop, as after breathing mods, it gets silly money for any gain. Price? 2k+ for parts and labor.

I might just get a nice K&N Induction Kit, Lowering springs (30/35mm), JBL Sub + 6x9s and 13cm Door SPeakers... That should come to about 500 odd quid with fittings...

I was also thinking of adding Better break discs and calipers to it as i have had a few experiences around here where Elderly People pull out in front of me.... I was going about 40 the other day when this old man in a Picasso pulled out straight infront of me.... I had to swerve onto the grass to avoid him :S.... And plus.. New brakes would be a nice thing to have anyway :). How much would a set of Drilled discs and some good calipers cost? Also, is there any point (& way) of removing the drum brakes on the back and adding Discs there too?. If so, How much would a good set of Drilled discs and Racing Calipers cost?

Rear drums are more than fine for a Focus.

Decent tyres would probably do you better.

Cool man, Thanks for your help :).

Don't worry, people who think im gonna chav it up. I just want it to be a bit nicer to drive and a bit more exciting. Not gonna put stupid bibs or lexus lights on it.... lol :P

True. I'd go for better tyres, fast road front pads, and a fluid change before replacing rear drums personally.

Have you also considered a replacement panel filter rather than a CAI? Substansially cheaper (~£40), more induction noise than stock, and wouldn't have to declare to insurance.

I know sod all about ICE, but I thought it was usually the case that a replacement HU gave better gains in sound quality over attaching bigger speakers to a stock HU? Easier to fit, easier to remove when you sell, and if you're picky you can get something with a few extras like bluetooth etc

You could probably just about make a ZVH for that cash using your bottom end and an Escort/Fiesta RS turbo head and manifold/turbo etc, if you did all the spannering yourself and got a few bargains. But bargain basement turbo conversions are likely to cost more in the long run if you fit the most budget parts first time around. For example you'd have to skim the focus pistons (unless you got some REALLY cheap calibra turbo pistons)and/or fit a decomp plate, neither of which are ideal.

Wait until you can afford more and get a pukka conversion done - power engineering, jamsport and performance 3000 will all be good companies to speak to.

T78 turbo !!!

Cut the bonnet and get it mounted through the hole then get some copper piping from your plumber and hook it up.

Toot ;)

I rang up my insurer (churchill) and if i was to put in a new panel filter that wasn't like for like it would count as an engine mod and void my insurance apparently! Just a word of warning!
