Adding additional drives

Hi everyone,

About year or two ago now I built my self a custom media server box. I installed two 3tb harddrives at the time along with a SSD. I put the 3tb drives into a raid but I can't remember what type, they act as one drive.

I'm looking to expand now as I am on my last 100gb.

Is there away to add the new drives into the existing raid or will I have to link the new drives together separate.

Thanks

With two drives they're RAID 0 or RAID 1 or JBOD. With RAID 0 or JBOD you have 6 TB of storage; with RAID 1 you have 3TB. In neither case can you directly add a new drive to the array. If you went for RAID 1 (mirroring), what you can do is break the mirror, add new 3TB drives, and create a new RAID 5 set. Some manufacturers make it possible to convert a RAID 0 to a RAID 3 or 5 by adding another drive. See here. If you're using JBOD then you just tack the new drive on the end.
