Adding another hdd crashes at bios

Built myself a new rig and everything works as it should.

If I try to connect another HDD I had on my old computer, it won't even post and resets itself before i can even get into bios. Remove drive and it's ok. Retried drive in comp it came out of and works fine.

New rig is running an ssd for boot, and WD 1tb for storage both connected via 6gb/s Sata. Also connected is a blu ray player on the 3gb/s rail. When adding the older hard drive it's also running on the same rail as the bluray

Any ideas?

IS the boot priority correct in the bios, set it to the SSD first and disable all other options for booting up.

Boot priority connect, can't even get into bios when drive is attached.

Stranger thing is that when I plug a ps2 keyboard in the screen goes multicoloured and freezes then resets. Very weird.

Probably not that odd, I've never known a computer that was happy with PS/2 keyboards being unplugged or plugged in while running.

re: lack of POSTing with the other HDD connected - power supply not up to it? It would have to be right on the edge if a hard drive is the tipping point, mind. You tried connecting it to the port that you're using for the BluRay drive?

Usually use a USB keyboard mouse, so when it got to the logo screen where it says press del to enter bios I thought the USB wasn't being recognised. Switched everything off, plugged in ps2 keyboard, still resets after logo screen, can't get into bios and also crashes with multi coloured screen. Without keyboard plugged in, it loops crashing at logo screen.

Power supply is brand new Seasonic x-series 660w so should be up to job.

Everything else worked fine so thought it would just be a connect and use HDD. It's a SFF build and everything nice and neat cable tied up, cables running under mobo, etc so can't really unplug everything and try. Sata ports on mobo are very inaccessible too. Might be able to stretch cable from new storage drive to older drive and try that way.

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults before pluging the spare drive in. I'd also try diff sata cables and ports to see if it makes a diff.
