Hey guys,

I want to add another hardrive to my computer. I have just put the second one into the drive bay. From the same PSU cable that I power the original Hardrive with, there is another connection on it that I connected to the second Hardrive that I'm using.

There's a black cable that I use to connect the Hardrive to the motherboard, but I've only got two of them; one for the Hardrive and the other for the DVD drive. Do I need another for the 2nd Hardrive I've installed?

I've tried looking on the net but I'm fairly confused with some of the tutorials.

I'm sure there's a BIOS setting that I'll need to do after this though.

P.s. I have a ribbon cable but it's not the right connection for the Hardive or Motherboard. I think it used Sata, well I'm assuming it does because it says Sata on the PSU cable that connects to it.

Thanks for any help.

As its a new HDD I will assume its SATA and so yes you will need to connect a SATA cable to the HDD and then to a SATA port on the motherboard. No BIOS changes should be required at all.

Just doing some reading now and getting familiar with some of the cable names.

It does look like it's SATA (with the L shaped connection). I guess I'll need to buy another SATA cable then?

I have the 1st HD in the first SATA port on the MOBO and the second is used for the DVD drive. When I do get a SATA cable, and connect it from the 2nd HDD to the MOBO, will I take out the DVD drive and put it into the 3rd port and the HDD into the 2nd?

Thanks for your reply, pepp77.

Edit: Awesome, I found a spare SATA cable.

Alright ok, but I just put it to two :P.

It's all done now, thanks for your help. I can't believe how easy it was.

Success!
