Adding cd key to steam... (quick question)

Question:

If I add a cd key from a retail bought game to steam, will steam download the game from their servers?

Depends entirely what game it is and if it uses Steamworks.

Oh, because I was going to go into my loft and get out all my old games.. unreal,bf2,quake ect. Was hoping was you add the cd key, you can download it from steam like any other game.

As has been asked about a million times, if its not on that list then no, you can't add it to steam. If it is, yes, you can add it to steam and dl it through them in the future.
