Adding Domain Controller Server 2008

one more thing..... do i need to assign a static ipv6 address? it says i need to but, having a look at them i have NO IDEA what an ipv6 address looks like let alone have the ability to set a static one :o
You don't need to. Server 2k8 + R2 throw gigantic hissy fits if you start disabling the IPv6 components, so it's better just to leave it without one.

thanks,

right new problem :(

Just tried to play a game.....and basically it wont work....cos the internet is too slow..

it seems that after ive done all this everything (all computers) internet wise is going sooooo slowly....

coincidence seems a bit unlikely as it started after i'd set everything up.

Something to do with DNS, DC, DHCP etc?

sorry for keeping going on :p

cheers

Not sure with gaming to be honest mate, i dont do a lot of online gaming. It shouldnt really cause a problem though. How have you setup each PC, IP wise?

haha ok.

err

all got static IP's

Subnet mask:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254 (router IP)

Preffered DNS: 192.168.1.115 (Primary DC)
Alternative DNS: 192.168.1.116(second DC)

strange thing is that speedtest reports that my interent is still the same, if not faster (!)

cheers

*sigh* alright ill look at that... :p

and is there any possibilty that i can just ask one more thing? (promise itll be the last for now)

posted this in the networks section dont seem to be getting a response:

hello

Just set up two DC's (server 2008) created a forest and domain etc.... joined all client PC's to it

now my problem is that i also have a WHS Vail installed and im using goodsync (very good program i might add) to sync media between clients and the server etc. However WHS cannot be joined to a domain, so is in its own WORKGROUP

when i try and sync files between the clients and the WHS i always get the error that the network location cannot be found....so if i go into Windows Explorer (on the whs) and go to network, not all the clients are listed (they tend to be there sometimes and sometimes not) I am assuming this is the problem.....but I don't know how to fix it

any ideas?

cheers

thanks again

Hint: you might want to set it up on your secondary DC, seeing as thats on 24/7

To your post above, i dont think its supported with it being WHS. You could try creating an A record on your DNS server to point to WHS though for sharing, To do this right click the primary zone, new A record, create a name and input the IP but again this may not work.

one step ahead of yah ;) already done :D

yeh, its annoying you cant join it to a domain, i think ive worked out how to enable the sync program to 'see' the network computers....by typing the network PC name with the domain on the end eg: \\FAMILY-PC.hellard-domain.com\x

that seems to work

thanks for all the help....really apprciated
