Hiya Guys

I've bought a 6tb Purple HDD to replace one of my 4, 2Tb HDD. It looked like I could just swap one with the 6tb and all would be good....HDD are in SHR showing 4tb.

I can add the 6tb and create an new Vol but the old vol 1 with now only 3x2tb says degraded (as expected) however I cant seem to change the "raid" config. So I've stuck the original 2tb back in and its doing a repair..

I Don't want to do a clean setup as I'll have to reinstall all my CCTV and set up all the motion detection etc again. But what I want is to have the new 6tb just for CCTV and then the other 3x2tb for backup photos and some important work files...

Help me work out what to do guys...

Ta
Matt

Can't be done with the Synology hardware/software - backup and clean install will be the only way.

Only possibility would be to install the drives in a linux pc and modify the array that way (as it uses linux's mdadm I believe), but it's beyond me.

Put the 6tb drive back in copy all the data off the old volume to it, blitz it and set it up again with 3 disks then copy the data back. Synology OS is installed across all the drives so config shouldn’t be lost this way.

Only do it this way if you have a proven backup of the data !

Is there a way to speed up copying from my existing drives to the new 6tb... Its in Kb/s

Ok its starting to get better.. 16 mb/s jumping to 40 ish...Still saying 22hrs to transfer 2tb....

If there are lots of small files they will take longer.

Yeah all the last 2 weeks of CCTV footage broken up into 30 min segments. I've deleted them now..I'm sure I would have noticed whether I need to keep them or not.

Its since been doing a Parity check for over 12 hours.

I would think they are still quite big though? If you had say 10,000 files totalling 1GB it will take many many times longer than just a few files totally 1GB.

CCTV all back up and running. Just need to adjust the motion detection alerts now...Its a bit sensitive in areas.

Also backing up Dropbox to the NAS. I've done that Via drag and drop before letting it Sync over Internet.
