adding more RAM to a rig

Currently I have got 2 x 2gb OCZ platinum 9,9,9,9, 24 in my rig. For various operational reasons I want to put another 4 gb in there. OCZ seem to have ducked out of the ram market these days, can I simply pick up any other brand as long as it is running / rated at the same frequency / timings / voltage? or will this give me stability issues ?

Yes

The only issue you might run into is if you have a massive overclock. In that case filling more RAM slots can cause you to have to turn things down a little.
