I'm having a headache with my media player not being able to see files on my Hp Microserver.
This is my setup for on my HP Microserver:

network.jpg

The media player can see the files under homegroup on my homserver, which as you can see from the picture above is docs, music, pics, rec tv and videos. This is the default folder and is on the small c drive on the server.

My media is on the e drive on the server, which I have shared and you can see it on the picture above under the network tab, I have shared my whole e drive, and the media folder and torrent folder. My media player cannot see any of this.

I have clicked on the media folder then clicked on share with at the top, then gone down to homegroup (read/write) but it still doesn't add it to the homegroup folders.

If I paste a video into the video folder on my c drive, my media player see this and plays it no problem.
I have spent hours trying to sort this out and tried every setting but it just doesn't work, being a complete beginner to this whole network and server thing doesn't help either :)

Further to this, when I use another computer to browse the network I see this:

network2.jpg

There are 2 users in the home group, Administrator and Home Server.
When I use Remote Desktop Connection I use the username of administrator.

When I have been adding media etc to homegroup it has been doing this under the admin user but I need to do it with the Home Server User.
However I cant remote desktop with home server user.

I think my heads about to explode :(

Thanks.

This might be a stupid question but you have set sharing but have you set permissions to this folder?

Right click then Properties>Security tab

What comes up in the window if you hit WinKey+R and type in \\HPSERVER
Does it show the shared E drive in that list? If it does, then just right click and map it as a network drive; A lot easier to navigate too.
