adding reservoir to closed loop?

id like to add a reservoir to my Tt big water. anyone else done this?

id basically like a shopping list of what i need to buy.

any help greatly appreciated :)
 
Hi,

The Thermaltake big water is pretty awful in terms of it's performance, a half decent air cooler or AIO cooler will out perform it, so perhaps consider a different cooler all together.
 
Agreed. It technically can be done, just get compression fittings of the correct size and choose your rad, but not worth it imo
 
Not sure what you're aiming to gain by having a reservoir? The main reason for having a reservoir in a custom loop is because of bleeding and filling, when in use it serves no real purpose at all. Since you've got a closed loop system, I'm at a loss as to what benefit you're after.
 
I think you might risk your perfectly working closed loop by messing around with it. There isn't a practical reason to do it but if you want it for aesthetic reasons, that's good enough, i added a RAM block to my loop for the same reasons!

More water in a loop can have a positive effect on cooling.
 
Without anything to dissipate heat, yeah but you have radiators. Heat is always being dissipated anyway so having more water to heat up will have a positive effect. It might not be much or worth it, but it'll certainly be measurable to some degree.

surely this is counteracted by the fact that you then have more water to cool down and to shift around the loop.

I doubt very much adding a resevoir to a closed cooler will have anything but a detrimental effect on cooling. The pumps are not powerful enough to move large volumes of water for one thing.

if it was pointless to have more liquid in the system then why would custom loops have such large reservoirs that take up space? and just because the pump has a low flow rate i dont see how adding more water will make it struggle.. wont be adding more rads

anyway, its largely down to aesthetics so i can use clear tubes with some funky dye

for looks, a massive rez looks awesome, i have a 270mm photon, when im folding myt gpu's go to around 36 degrees, when i used my smaller rez, they were at 36 degrees.

the only difference was possibly how fast they got to that heat, but im not sure, i never really checked how long it took :)
 
Assuming you're not adding to the head of a loop adding the res it won't have much effect other than additional tubing losses. The bigger volume means you'll have more thermal lag, it'll take longer to heat up and longer to cool down.
 
well closed loops have next to nothing with air bubbles to boot (you can hear the pump gurgle sometimes)

so if nothing else this would eliminate the air.. plus look good and be my 1st steps to a custom loop.. maybe only a 1/4 of a loop, but it'd be a start should i decide to go full on water
