One of my pc's was shop bought with windows 7 oem 32-bit. It didn't come with a windows dvd but I do have the genuine license number.

I've previously upgraded the CPU and ram without problems, but now I want to move the C: drive to an SSD.

It seems like I can download an ISO image of Win7 for the new drive or clone the existing drive and either way then go through the phone license update?. Is there a big advantage or disadvantage to one over the other?

I wouldn't go from a SATA IDE HDD to an SSD with a cloned image. You would be much better off doing a fresh install, avoiding alignment issues and get the best performance level from the SSD. Win7 will optimise the drive during the install process. Lot's of info on doing so here on the forums.
