Adding third monitor via USB?

OK so i have a dual monitor setup running off my Nvida GTX260...

I wanted a third monitor, and i guess the only way to get one without getting a new GFX Card, would be to buy the new USB monitors. The Samsung lapfits look nice...

Is this possible, will the PC just recognise the third monitor via USB?

Yes it should work but its not very responsive - I took my one back as it had so much lag it was almost useless!

1280x1024@60Hz is something like 2gigbit/s USB2 doesn't even manage 0.5gigbit/s more like 0.34gigbit/s useable. So unless your happy with low res give it a miss.

You could get a triplehead2go. I had a GTX260 with a TH2GO. Sold the GTX260 bought a 5850. Now am waiting for a displayport adaptor :/

if your motherboard has another PCI-E slot you can just get another graphics card preferably of the same type (nVidia/ATi wise) of any model and put it in the 2nd slot (NOT IN SLI/XFIRE). that should allow you to have 3rd and a 4th monitor, although you won't be able to game on them

A lot of triple and quad monitor setups that are sold by manufacturers use fairly high end gpu's (260's and up) in combination with a 9400GT to open up the extra monitor, although those are mainly for productivity rather than gaming.

I say go TH2G if you're gaming, although a 9400 isn't particularly expensive if it's just for more screen estate. Bear in mind that a 260 will struggle to push 3 monitors at most resolutions on mid-high settings in games, so if you're gaming I suggest getting a 5830/50/70
