I've recently got a rather nicely specced laptop in addition to my home PC, at current I have a wired Thomson Speed Touch 510 router, but would like to free my laptop from the wires, but at the same time not replace the router itself.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I have a speedtouch 510 pluging into a WRT54GS for wireless.
Can do it 2 ways, double NAT with the 510 in the WAN port of the 54GS and have the wifi on a separate subnet. Or plug into a LAN port and jut run it as an access point.

The advantage of going LAN to WAN is that the router can do things like IP filtering etc if you might have guests and have files shared you don't want them to be able to browse through.
And you can apply QoS and other features to the wireless network separately of the Wired.
