Hello,

So in October I will be looking at purchasing a new monitor to go along side my Asus PB278Q.

I do Game Development and Play games as well.

I prefer crisp image over refresh rate so an IPS / PLS panel is preferred over a TN panel however I might be willing to compromise.

I Also like having a 1440p monitor over 1080p. But 4K might be an option but I'm not really interested in 4K.

If need be Might be willing to buy 2 of the same monitor as matching is always nice.

I did look at the Asus PB278QR but I read that this monitor is a IPS not PLS and that it suffers display port issues (Which I Use)

Any Help would be brilliant.

Cheers

I'm lusting after all three of these at the moment. The Samsung probably being the safest option if you've been keeping up with recent drama on IPS QC issues.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Acer Predator XR341CKA 34" 3440x1440 IPS G-SYNC WideScreen Super-Wide ZeroFrame Curved LED Monitor £989.99
1 x Asus PG279Q ROG Swift 27" 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync 165Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red £749.99
1 x Samsung S34E790C 34" 3440x1440 VA WideScreen Super-Wide Curved LED Monitor £719.99
Total : £2,486.60 (includes shipping : £22.20 Ex.VAT).

I'm not aware of the IPS Drama ? Do share :D.

Not really a fan of Samsungs products, Not to mention this will not go well with my current monitor :D

Specifically but not limited to the Acer Predator XB270HU 27" 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync 144Hz. There's a huge thread on this forum which you should check out if you have time. But to summarize; some users have been having problems with these screens in the form of dirt behind the glass, excessive IPS glow and backlight bleed. Also stuck / dead pixels and poor customer service on returns (from Acer, not OcUK, who are generally brilliant). There are also several instances of people ordering new monitors only to have second hand units arrive, packaged as new, with some or all of the above issues. It has damaged confidence to the point that some now consider it a bit of a lottery when purchasing this tech from Acer.

I'm not sure if Acer and Asus share the same panel manufacturer (AU Optronics, I think). But you might want to look into this. My advice would be to wait until a few weeks after release to see what the feedback is from both mainstream reviews and peer feedback on forums like this one.

Ah right, I will wait until after release then to see what is the situation.

I normally avoid Acer due to previous issues anyway, But don't want to fall into any niggles with the Asus, so I will hold out until December I think, Or choose another one, But not sure what.

Its a tricky one. The Asus PG278Q TN panel generally has a good reputation, but its IPS successors at this higher refresh rate are a relatively new tech. Its allot of money to throw at something that you're unsure of. You can get that money back of course, but who wants to spend their time playing monitor tennis?
