Yer I know - Call them!!
However, just in case anyone else is insured with Admiral.
Do you get free front windscreen chip repair with a comprehensive policy?
Need to get a small chip repaired and would rather not have to pay the £70 Autoglass want if my insurance comapny won't cover.

Ta

D'oh!
Should have known the terms & conditions would be on the website!
Cool, so free repair on the chip - better than the "From £72.50+vat" mentioned on the Autoglass website for those not covered byinsurance.

Thanks.

It is a complete waste of your time. I had it done, you could still see the chip and over time the resin came out anyway. Went for a new screen in the end, lets face it its a bargain at 70 quid and well worth it.

I need to enquire about getting a new screen, mine is quite scratched/swirled, which gets quite annoying on a sunny afternoon.

It's the only chip on the screen.
As it's free I'll give it a go - they have said they'll come out today and do it.
If it really doesn't work then I'll try and go for a new screen.

It's in the bottom corner of the passenger side, so not too worried if it isn't a perfect fix.

Can you just call up requesting a new screen right away, or does the fitter 'assess' it on the spot?

it goes by the size of the chip on the glass, may aswel get it filled with resin firstly and if it doesnt suit your needs pay your excess :)

Not always, I had one done once and I couldn't see it after, but then it wasn't in my direct vision. I had another done and it was still clearly visible.

Well it's been done.
The chip was pretty small and about an inch in from my tax disc.
Results are good, you can still see a mark but nowhere near as much as earlier.
You can no longer feel the chip at all when you move your finger over it - smooth as....

So think I'll be happy enough with it.
Might have been different if the chip had been on the drivers side.

Sister's car had a chip repaired by Autoglass at Bluewater. Almost invisible, you could barely tell there'd been a repair and it has lasted over 3 years with no problem. I guess it's different depending who does it.

My experience was exactly as above :( but £70 for a new screen isn't bad at all, and the chip was really very visible so I was extremely reluctant to leave it 'as is'.

Dad got two chips on his E61 from the motorway on Monday last week.

On Wednesday work got someone to fill them, they only did the large one as the small one was "too small to worry about" and their repair was really obvious.
On Thursday the small chip turned into a 1" crack.
On Friday the small chip turned into a 2" crack.
On Saturday the small chip turned into a 5" crack.
On Sunday the small chip turned into a 6" crack.
Today work got it replaced with a new screen and their moneyback for the repair.

Complete and utter waste of time .

TLDR; get a new screen instead.

I've got a chip in my windscreen that appears to be getting more noticeable. I'm with Elephant where the excess is also £70, however, my windscreen is a Ford heated screen as standard. Do insurance companies replace with heated windscreens or is there generally an extra charge for this?

Aslong as you've been insuring the car as a Ford then nope they won't charge extra - they knew it was standard on your car when you took out the policy.

Yep - been insured with them for the last two years (now in my third), and naturally insured as the exact car (ST24/by number plate) so will show up as standard I believe.

Thanks.

My car is a Ford Fiesta ST with a heated front screen and there were no issues at all - had it replaced about 10 days ago through Admiral/National.

I was slightly worried about them using a 'pattern' screen that would maybe have more obvious wire elements in it for the quickclear function. But I needn't have worried - sure the screen they used on my car is not a Ford branded part, but is made by Pilkington who make all the glass for Ford (if you look at the etching on your glass...you will probably see 'Pilkington' underneath the Ford logo). Apart from the branding it is exactly the same in terms of quality, fit and function :)
