Admiral - Free windscreen repairs?

So can you get the glass repaired if its really badly scratched or does it need to be cracked badly first ;)

I have always wondered this, if your windscreen has heated elements in it does autoglass replace it with a proper OEM or a third party one and will the heated screen still work? I ask because I have loads of the elements that dont actually work and the windscreen ends up with about 15 lines of "mist" on them where the broken elements are when its cold. So if I got a chip on the screen and it was replaced it would still be replaced with a proper heated screen?

Its a beat up old Mk2 mondeo by the way...

I just rang up Admiral and said it was chipped...which it was. No quibble about how bad it was or whether it would pass on an MOT or not....they just gave me the number for National who took my details and arranged to come out and repair it.

National said it was free if it was repairable, or £70 to replace. They repaired it first of all as they said it would be okay, but it was not a good repair - obvious and still very visible, not smooth at all, hardly any better to be honest. I rang up, complained, said I wanted the whole screen replacing and was happy to pay the excess. They ordered a screen and about a week later came out to the house to do it. Simple as anything...no hassle of having to justify having it replaced to Admiral or anything :)

Can't comment on Autoglass but read my reply above and you'll see that National use a heated front screen if that is what was on the car, and in my case it was equal to OEM quality :)

Cheers I just used autoglass as thats all I thought of when typing it;) Basically just just wanted to know if it would still work when I pressed the button, cheers will look into it.

National replaced mine with a genuine BMW screen with rain sensor.

Well, eventually :D

I booked a day off work so I could be around when it was done, rather than leave my parents to just give the guy the keys and just crack on with it....I had visions of my car being driven around sans windscreen after your thread :D

Can you just call up requesting a new screen right away, or does the fitter 'assess' it on the spot?

You get the fitter round, tell him you want a new windscreen, rather than a chip repairing, he takes down your policy number, you pay him the excess shown on the policy, he fits the screen and drives away.

They'll come to your office if you like, save you a day off work next time.

Yep - had mine done at work last year. It is better too, as there's normally a period of a couple of hours where the adhesive is still setting and the car shouldn't really be driven - a jolt can potentially unseat the screen leading to leaks in the future.

Give them a call, tell them to do it at work but that you need your car in the afternoon. They'll turn up and do it in the car park, and your car gets to sit still all afternoon.

Have a chip in my windscreen. Think it was repaired before, but the resin has come out. Probably would have been better if they had left it, but the hole they have drilled is probably going to fill with water and freeze in the winter. Will get onto Admiral this afternoon.
