Adnams have branched out into distilling - we went to a do at our local garden centre and noticed some Gin, Vodka, Limoncello and a Cherry Liqueur all distilled by Adnams. I thought we should try the vodka.

FWIW I only drink vodka neat

I usually like Stolichnaya chilled for a bit in the freezer and then poured over ice - it softens the spirit and makes for a smoother nip. I don't really care for Stoli at room temperature - it has a "fishy" (for want of a better word) note.

The Adnams (distilled from barley) reminds me much more of potcheen. It tastes much stronger, but when drunk at room temperature seems to have a much better depth of flavour. It has a powerful and warming alcohol hit, but has a good 'vodka' finish - no faint chemical aftertaste, just a nice warming feeling.

If you like vodka (neat) then see if you can give it a try - it's not cheap, ~£25 a bottle, but by crikey it's nice and you don't need to freeze/chill it. If you like a vodka mixer, just buy the cheapest one and freeze it for a few hours ;)

We went on the Adnams brewery tour last November. They have whisky maturing but I can't remember when they said it would be ready.

I did try some Spirit of Broadside but it was like rocket fuel for me (like any other spirit I've tried). Much prefer a pint of Gunhill.

Never heard of abnams before (just did a quick google looks ok), I also like to drink Stolichnaya chilled over ice with no mixer (no accounting for good taste is their...:D also noticed in the supermarket a bottle of snow grouse vodka..

"Jack of all trades, master of none" Not a massive fan of their ales anyway to be honest, I'll drink em, hell, I'll probably buy a few if they're on offer but they're not in my top 50 list.

And the only real time I drink vodka neat is when it's been infused with hops, or turned into a fine gin, then it actually makes sense.

I've tried the whole fancy vodka thing, stoli, grey goose, beluga. It's all overpriced tosh you ask me, yes the expensive ones are smoother but theres no taste, or depth. Can't see the appeal behind it when you could have a reasonably nice bottle of whisky or cognac. Different strokes though.

I discovered their distilling about 18 months ago while browsing in one of their shops (Woodbridge to be exact) Dad is from the town where the brewery is & grew up on their beer (& so did I) I thought it would be nice to buy him a bottle of Broadside (4.7% bitter) in a nice presentation box? 33 quid later I thought it was expensive for a bottle of beer. It turned out that it is a spirit distilled from the said beer & 43% I tried a tipple of dad opened it & very nice it is too. ;)
