Adobe says no way to Vista updates

Adobe says you'll have to upgrade to new versions of popular (and really expensive) software like Photoshop, InDesign and DreamWeaver if you want them to run well under Windows Vista.

Current versions of many Adobe products won't run flawlessly under Windows Vista, this announcement only confirms that they never will. So, if you're a creative professional (who hasn't already jumped ship to OS X) start getting out the check book. Adobe's CS3 creative suite will be out next week, and it ain't gonna be cheap.

We probably should have realized something was up when Adobe's own document on Vista compatibility (which we wrote about almost a month ago) dodged the question by stating that Adobe would release free patches for "some of Adobe's currently available products." To our credit, it would have been much easier to spot if they'd said, "some of Adobe's currently available products, but not the ones anyone actually uses or cares about."

they should honestly be shot

Adobe are terrible for ripping the customer for any excuse

there is no justifyable reason for charging one price via a download server for on market, and then charging another price for another market on that SAME server.

no supprise they've taken vista as an excuse to force every1 to buy a new version of the software.

True words. My friend had a tough time with a similar situation and in the end he just couldnt be bothered and i think he used an "alternative".

TBH it depends how much work would be involved to properly patch them, although surely it couldn't take that long to do it?

Personally I happily use Paint.NET :D

CS2 seems to run ok under vista but I did have problems with it last week when it corrupt itself. Theres no way I can afford to shell out on CS3 though I just want a patch!!!!

Not much you can do. They did the same with Mac when Apple switched from Power PC to Intel processor.

Clearly, it's not something you would use at home unless you're working on them for a living.

All Adobe's doing is making it harder for people to afford their software which results in people having no choice but to buy copies.

Then they moan that they are loosing money because people are buying/selling copies.........

i have no sympathy for them!

No - pirating does NOT get the message accross, when will people realise this.
All pirating does is show that you're thieving scum.
Find an alternative to the Adobe product and use that instead - this is the only way you can get the message over.

Buy the update instead of the full version? There's a demo of it comming up in the London Mac store too.

Adobe is somewhat like Microsoft with their prices at the moment, but imo, its worth it as they do make top quality stuff.

CS2 runs just as good in Vista as it did in XP for me, just a few niggles but nothing too major. However, I won't be buying another Windows version of it.

Hardly the first company in the world to declare that their product doesn't support something that isn't written on the box...

other than to commit a criminal act? Just because they want something but are not prepared to pay for it?

Of course they have a choice. It's not as though adobe is forcing them to commit an offence under duress is it. There are cheaper (even free) alternatives. There is just no excuse, ever.

The only problem I had with CS2 was the Gamma Loader in startup. I found that If I used my new Spyder profiler which works with Vista, I can still run CS2 with no problems and able to load my monitor profile at startup.
As long as you actually setup everything to run as Administrator and CS2 to run in XP mode you should have no problem. As for 64 bit I can only state that it is a 32bit application so don't expect miracles.

That's slightly different, CS2 and previous would have needed to be rewritten from scratch for a universal binary. The photoshop codebase has grown so bad over time that it's pretty unwieldy, even containing 68k code from before the time Apple moved from 68k to PPC processors.

Photoshop works just fine for me and I dont even use compatibility mode.

Also, PDF reader. Why is the download now like 60 megabytes and constantly wants to update?(Until I blocked that)/

Im sure that version one which was probably like 2 megabytes works just fine.
