Adolescence | Netflix

I know some have tried to minimise the issues raised in Adolescence and to imply it should be a show about black kids stabbing people, because that's all we need to worry about, but it sounds like they were really on the pulse to me:

Wonder if all these teachers and government officals concerned about the 'rise of misogyny' will look at other factors such as the breakup of the family home and increase in certain religions or just continue to go after the low hanging fruit of social media and 'influencers'.

My god this post couldn't be more ridiculous

Yep

So the theory is that sons (mainly) raised by mothers in single parents families are somehow becoming mysoginistic because dad isn't around?

Conversely, "certain religions" [Muslims] who tend to keep a strong family home with less divorces are also responsible for it

That really makes sense....

Feels like a very gross oversimplification of social issues (organised crime, poverty, lack of police /prison funding, etc) to simply point the finger at “Social media influencers and companies“.

If anything the media and government seem very keen to use this as an excuse to remove rights to privacy, encryption and free speech online.

Can’t help but wonder if that’s why the government are so keen to promote this TV show?

I think its an easy out by society as a whole to blame a social media companies alone.

To me, its society as a whole who has the responsibility to instil the ethics it wants to see into its future generations, and in a lot of cases society just doesn't do that enough, and instead it looks to pass the buck on to someone else as a means to absolve their individual conscious.

For example, in many cases nowadays, the first thought of many in society is to take out the camera, film something, post it and proclaim how its wrong. Whilst that may make the person feel better about themselves, its done little to actually address the issue, so nothing gets better.

In adolescence, I think it was good that it makes people ask and talk about these things. (I cant see the link though to the government wanting to gain more control through promoting it. )

Thank god only simple minded folk that are sad seeing Andrew tates name mentioned actually think this.

The reality is the show lists a whole bunch of reasons. Some are just a bit too sublte for some.

Anddd the reality is that the government can kick ass and chew gum at the same time. So when they point fingers are one reason, they can also point fingers at other reasons too.

But any way, what do the teachers know, other than first hand actual experience. It's so hard to know who we should trust.
