Sutil's manager, Manfred Zimmermann, welcomed the proceedings and believes they will find his client not guilty.

"We are convinced that the court will come to the conclusion that there was no intentional attack," he said. "We feel good. So the truth will come out."

Lewis Hamilton, a close friend who was present at the time of the attack, though not involved, could be called as a key witness to the events.

It's also rumoured that the 29-year-old is banned from entering China on criminal grounds, which it's believed is partly the reason as to why Williams, with whom Sutil had a chance of joining for 2012, are now against the idea.

It seems Eric Lux decided to pursue the case over the glassing incident in Germany rather than China...

Maybe this is why Sutil is out of a drive for 2012?

Sutil's not happy with Hamilton:

Some VERY angry words from Adrian Sutil about Lewis Hamilton not turning up in court despite the fact he was sat with him in the club.

According to 'Bild' Sutil says Hamilton is a coward and not a man or a friend. Lewis even changed his 'phone number to avoid him.

I thought they were meant to be best friends?

Mind you, Hamilton might have had something to say that would not be in favour of Sutil, so decided not to turn up rather than help condemn his friend.

Anyway, it's only a suspended sentance for a bit of assult, I imagine a huge amount of 18-35 year old in the UK have had similar.

It's hardley doing to ruin the life of a multimillionaire.

Lol.

McLaren stopped Lewis going. He was already committed to some other corporate stuff. There was even an article about it where they were asking for him to be called on a different day.

Nothing to do with Lewis, but hey, why stand in the way of a chance to **** him off.

I understand Mclaren didn't want him to go but it's rather curious that he didn't go anyway. If you could help a friend you would say balls to a corporate event wouldn't you?

Or Mclaren got wind that he was in trouble and Lewis wouldn't be able to help him and didn't want his name involved.

I don't know enough about the case but I'm sure Mclaren did.

I admit I have not read a lot about this, but can someone quickly explain to me how someone can be prosecuted for assault in Germany, when the assault happened in China? I can see Germany extraditing him to China to face it there, but not a German court prosecuting, because surely the rules and punishments are different?:confused::confused:

Nice to see the McLaren PR department are at least attempting to protect Lewis, unlike last season where they seemed to be as absent as his management team. Though the papers are of course going with words like 'gag'....

From the Grauniad:

Asked about Sutil's remarks following today's launch of the new McLaren ahead of the new season, Hamilton was not given an opportunity to reply.
A McLaren spokesman intervened and said: "We've been told Lewis shouldn't really go there because it might go under appeal, so can we move on to the next question", to which the 27-year-old Hamilton added: "I'll listen to him."
