Brazil and Inter Milan striker Adriano is to take a break from football and "rethink his career".

"I've lost the happiness of playing," he told reporters on Thursday. "I wouldn't like to go back to Italy, I want to live in peace here in Brazil."

Adriano, 27, said he could not say how long he would stay away from the game.

"I don't know if I'm going to stay for one, two or three months without playing," said the former Flamengo star. "I'm going to rethink my career."

"I have nothing against Inter, I just did not like living in Italy. I felt pressured. A lot of people will not understand. It is a bad situation, not easy at all, but it is a choice."

Asked whether he could appear with a Brazilian club, Adriano said the only possibility would be Flamengo.

"If I play in Brazil, it will be for Flamengo. Otherwise, my grandmother would kill me," he joked.

He also denies the drug/alcohol rumours.

Very sad indeed. He was such a beast at Parma and in the very early stages of his Inter career. Definitely could have been a very special player IMO. Hope he sorts it out and returns. Apparently he's having a hard time getting over a break-up with his girlfriend.

That is definitely a shame, there seems to be a lot of burn out with the brazilian players. When they are entering their 'prime' years, the wheels seem to fall off. I do hope he comes back stronger though.

My heart goes out to him...

Please what pressure does he have apart from knowing where to spend all his money. Whats the worse that can happen, the fans might boo him. What a big girls blouse! ;)

He is having trouble getting over his girlfriend? He could just buy a new one. Probably pick up some bargains in the european countries too. ;)

Yes, footballers are immune from pressure, depression and feelings...

Real shame, when he's on form and in the right frame of mind he's unstoppable.

Sweet left foot as well.

Girl, people would do anything to be a professional footballer, all that talent and he wants to waste it.

Yeah he got it by hard work, just because anyone would do anything to be a professional footballer doesn't mean he has to play and keep depressed just because others would like it, i'm sure guys in africa would die to be in your position lol but I bet you take it for granted it's all relative.

Hope he gets his head straight, he was and could be one of the best strikers in the world with a mean left foot.

Footballers are human beings just like you and me. When they go through the strain of having to return the millions spent on them via consistently high performances, it tends to grate on the mind a little. I'm surprised there aren't more footballers visibly stressing out to be honest. When a club spends literally millions on you, there's an onus to justify that. Not everyone can deal with that pressure.

Several days ago there was a story about him dissappearing though it got virtually no coverage. Dunga was saying he seemed happy in the brazillian camp but had basically dissappeared, missed his flight and no one could find him. He seemed very worried and the inference was he was worried he might have topped himself.

ANyway, culture shock can be a huge thing, on the surface things can seem very similar in really any 1st world country, but in reality living somewhere with people who aren't very similar, like different things, you maybe don't have many friends and you're simply unhappy can make you not want to go back.

Remember he's already a multimillionaire, the majority of footballers keep playing because they enjoy the competition the game and the money, but if you hated the city, people and your everyday life theres no real reason to force yourself to play.

Italy is afterall a fairly racist place in general and you can imagine he gets a heck of a lot of stick in and around town every day, especially in a city with two main teams.

Italians are such tit's, racist as hell but just about willing to ignore it if said black player happens to play for their team.

I'm sure he's only really coming back from injury, needs to get in shape again and theres not much of the season left with Inter fairly safe. THe majority of his "time out" will be off season anyway, and if he's not in the right state to play he's useless there. If he has a few months at home happier he'll probably find it easier to lose weight, get back to fitness and be happier again.

This is the bloke who said he loved being in Italy and that they treated him like a Prince. Well, I suppose anyone would say that if Man City were after you. :D

what you say and what you feel are different things.

Its only generally players who are about to leave, or the biggest idiots in the world that insult the city they live in and the people that see them everyday. Like Hleb for instance, lifes easier with a few little lies now and then, especially if what you say will end up in all the local papers ;)

Whats people in africa got to do with it? lol

I love my life and job. But I have done jobs before that i didnt like. I certainly didnt just quit and run off home.

People in this country hate their job and still do it because they dont have the money to just stop working if they dont feel up to it.

So why should we feel sorry for someone who doesnt ever have to work again in his life if he chooses, give up a fantastic job (which he signed a contract for) just because he is feeling down about his girlfriend.

I stand by my comment. BIG GIRLS BLOUSE!!! :D
