I was regraded from 2MB to 8MB ADSL two weeks ago. However this week its all went rather wrong. From BTs speed tester:

IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 160 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 115 kbps

I've ruled out any problems at my end (thankfully have a spare router). The router is currently sync'ing at 6000kbps.

How do I get the IP profile back to a "normal" level? Is it an auto process?

The problem is the fact you connected at 160kbps downstream. If you stay connected at 6000kbps, it'll eventually go back up automatically.

Still sitting here connected at 6000kbps but with a 160kbps downstream. Time to get BT involved :(.

Been like this for at least nine days so far.

leave your router on and connected for the next 5 days without turning it off or rebooting and it will go back up.

Well my ISP said to switch it off at least twice a day for 10 minutes, I'm sure no one knows how this stuff works ;).

Unfortunately I end up with at least one random disconnection each day. A line check is well overdue me thinks.

Your ISP certainly don't - disconnecting your router like that certainly doesn't help, but staying connected won't make much odds.
Consistently connecting at a high enough sync rate to trigger an increase in IP profile is enough, and a disconnection once a day isn't a fault. If you want it fixed your ISP could increase your target SNR margin at the cost of reduced speed.

Ever feel like those on the other end of the phone are simply going through a flow chart . Trying to get them to admit there is a problem is a nightmare.

Apart from one sync (160kb) every other sync has been greater than 3Mb, with 90% of them above 6Mb. Nine days later, the fault remains.

Tbh, there are periods where the connection drops out repeatedly (handy thing these router logs ;)). These happen a few times when I'm using the connection but also during the day and at night with the connection is not being used. Something aint right.

The one 160kbps might have pulled the profile down again (though the blip logic changes should ignore that), but it should have been moving up towards at least 3Mbps.

It's not really abnormal for a rate adaptive service to disconnect - the ISPs have done a pretty crappy job of managing expectations of a system that's sole purpose is to push your connection as fast as it possibly can.

A sync speed of 160kbps sounds like a fault. The only time mine went that low was when I forgot to attach a microfilter to one of my phone outlets. Even if you think you've completely ruled out faults within your home, check again just to be sure. Have you connected any phone extensions directly into your master socket - these will need a microfilter on them. If there is indeed a fault your router will keep resynching at these stupidly low speeds (~160kbps) which will be stopping your IP profile from increasing.

I was under the impression that a single low sync was enough to get your profile lowered but it would take 3 continuous syncs at a higher speed to get the profile to increase. So if you're getting low syncs in between then you're back to square 1.

3 days at a consistently higher sync rate, not 3 sync events.
There was supposed to be a change to ignore a single, intermittant, low sync event - the "blip logic" change I mentioned.
