Hi All I am due to change my isp soon ,and sort of know who i,m going with ,but i read a lot of posts about different companies, some people say wow ! there the best isp ever ! others say i,ve got problems with these etc etc .I,m now starting to think that chooseing an isp is pretty much of a muchness,as i strongly believe that there really isn,t what we call the totally perfect ADSL isp ! and most of the big boys who were the key players are now selling out to other companies and are **** ! which leaves the smaller isp's to catch the fallout .This is why Enta has done so well over the last few months ,as they have picked up the customers who have jumped ship from the takeovers ( mentioning no names ha !) how long it all will last who knows ,but for anyone whos thinking of getting the 100% perfect dream isp i don,t think they exsist

If I had the choice I would choose a smaller company. Don't know why though :\

Yeah i agree with that ! someone like ADSL24, Fast.co.uk, or any of the Enta resellers .. forget BT Nildram,Pipex etc ,there just selling out to the big boys ,and giving poor service without any care oof the cutomer ;)

Dont agree at ALL.

I've had BT for the last 7/8 years and its been pretty much perfect.

Unlimited option 3, 7.1mbits (currently - probs hit about 7.2/3 once main thing is working).

Can't fault it, although there may be some slowing at peak times although it hasn't happened for a while.

Yeah now if you read my thread thats my point exatly ! some poeple love one isp ,and the next has had a nitemare ,which means its pretty much personnal or pure luck ha !

There isn't such a thing as a perfect ISP, whatever the connection is over.
The closest is the best ISP for you, and that could change daily.

I have used Be for 2 months in my new flat. 20mb all the time and no service drop outs. Haven't needed to call their support so as far as I am concerned 100% satisfaction

I have to admit, whilst I had all manner of problems with BT a few months ago, since finding the problem the service has been great.

The router syncs nicely at >7MB and latencies are good.

I'd rather the call centres weren't all foreign though. :(

For the money and what you get you can't beat a enta reseller imo am on ukfsn office 45 atm, one of there packages is home 30 which is 30 gig peaks and 300 gig off peaks(off peaks are 10pm-8am Monday-Thursday and Friday 10pm-Monday 8am all for £19.99 a month, best bang for buck and a good service with NO port blocking of any kind.

It all depends on what you want from an ISP.
There are plenty of great ISP's out there - despite what a vocal group will tell you a lot of the larger ISP's know exactly what they are doing and provide a great service.

What you will tend to hear is people moaning about their ISP cracking down on how much users are downloading etc.
Also the throttling of non-important or less important traffic like P2P.
So of course there will be a vocal group telling you that a certain ISP is rubbish because they limit your monthly download to something like 40GB and throttle P2P traffic as compared to other traffic it is usually less important...most ISP's feel that the majority of their customers should get a good http/ftp/gaming experience even if that is at the expense of people downloading their latest bunch of illegal ISO's over P2P.

According to the vocals I shouldn't be touching Nildram.
However I do, I've had no downtime from them in over a year.
I connect at 8MB, get 800kbps+ download rates at off-peak times and find their service perfect in everyway.

I wish I had an ADSL ISP provider that had a good gaming/http experience.

Tiscali, no - second worst
Virgin, oh hell no - worst of the bunch
BT, no - close 2nd but takes 3rd

IMO, Entanet are certainly the best value for money right now...
£19.99 for 8MB 30/300GB, 24/7 UK Support, they are constantly upgrading their network (Central 6 was enabled TODAY!) and I honestly can't fault them. No traffic shaping, port blocking nonsense and they are such an honest company, even sharing the status of all of their centrals.
They actively engage in forums like thinkbroadband to make sure their customers are always happy and fixing problems, etc.
All with just a one month contract.

EDIT: Is there a link on there website to see if Enta provide internet in my area?

I would recommend any Enta-based ISP - the are garnering a solid reputation for service and attention to customers.

This ADSL24 is looking good, I'm gonna ask my dad if we can switch, currently I'm on AOL, you get nice speed throttling from about 5PM untill about 11:30pm, my normal speed is 3.2mbit, AOL throttles it to 512k , sucks that ADSL24 has these usage limits and unlimited aint very good, apart from that, they seem better.

I made a post about my isp a few wks back and agreed with UKFSN being the right choice (have not moved from Virgin yet)

These people are enta and offer the same £19.99 deal as above?

enta still have to manage speeds during their busy periods. sometimes it gets down to 2-3mb speeds but even then you're still free to use whatever protocol you like. and unless you constantly monitor speeds/download large files, you'd never notice. sites still load instantly and streaming media works fine. compared to some bad isps which crawl along during peak times, it makes a nice change. :)

also they've just had a new bt central go live today. because of the good reputation they're building, they're adding capacity as they need it. and even if it does go belly up, you can leave as you only have 30 days notice. :D

ukfsn/adsl24 offer identical packages/service. the only difference is adsl24 have a flashier website.

Im thinking of moving isp's at the moment also, am currently with BT - however its getting throttled peak times. Will enta not throttle on the same line ????
In other words i'll still get the smae speeds with enta wont i - as they are not llu?
That's why i was thinking of switching to be* as they are llu based so was hoping to get better speeds?? Confusion!!! HELP!!!:confused:

Never had any problems with BT.

I've had them since unlimited 56K, I then upgraded to ASDL 512k with them and have seen my connection increase to 2mbit then 8mbit (router syncs at 8mbit) with no increase in charge and with absolutely no contact between myself and BT.

I really can't complain about that :)
