Yeah, faceplate filters are generally better, because you can cut out crappy extension wiring. If your extensions are alright (or you've got plenty of SNR margn to play with), the difference is pretty moot.
I've found both my old Excelsus filters (from 2003) and the ones I'm using just now (name includes a competitor

) have both been fine - but I've got a dodgy drop cable out to a pole that gets drenched by next door's guttering every time it rains, so the value of decent filters is a bit academic.
