Is it possible? I'll describe the setup in question.

Main BT exchange linked to a Microwave dish, Microwave dish then links to another Microwave dish(located at the site where ADSL is required, arround 2 miles away) Microwave dish then goes to local (on site) phone exchange. Cables are then run from the exchange to each building.

Can ADSL be use over that? From what I've seen and the phone number test carried out on the BT site it should get a 2mb line but I've got a feeling that it's just a default message there.

Is it possible to find out without requesting ADSL on the line? any special BT phone numbers avaliable to speak to people?

Thanks!

Perfectly possible. I'm sure if your exchange didn't have ADSL, it would say 'ADSL not installed' and not tell you you might get 2Mb.

Don't quote me on this but I would have thought that ADSL would have required a hard wired connection from your home striaght to the line card at the ADSL enabled exchange.

I could very well be wrong though!

The post implies that a major exchange with suitable backhaul is linked to some minor (probably rural) exchange by microwave link. There would then be an DSLAM installed in the exchange, and the end users line would be connected to a line card on that. The microwave link is only for the backhaul between the outlying exchange and the larger exchange, as it's cheaper than laying fibre or similar.

So what you're saying is true, I suppose!

I was wondering that, but if the microwave can run at a high speed (which is can) then that may negate the problem of not haveing a solid copper linking it. Thou I would think that some upgraded/specialized hardware maybe needed to convert the signal.

Looking like a phone call to BT is in order! see what they say for themselfs.
