Hi,

I need an ADSL wireless router (802.11g) that has a QoS feature that works reliably. Specifically, I want to prioritise gaming traffic to and from the internet for a specific host.

I'm not looking to spend much more than £100.

Thanks

I've just bought a Netgear WNR3500 because I was getting ping spikes when others browsed the internet with my DG834GT. Should have it tomorrow and can hopefully tell you if it makes a difference..

So far so good.. small spikes but to be expected and a lot better than before. I would say its worth investing in a good router.

Yes but that's a cable router. If the op had asked for on of those then there would have been several replies with rt-n16/wnr3500 + tomato. The problem is there aren't many adsl routers that have qos and those that do, like some of the newer netgears, are basic at best.

If you want good qos on a router then you need tomato.

If you have the parts you could just throw together a small pc and load pfsense/smoothwall onto it. More powerful than tomato, less practical for most people.

How about DG834GT in modem only mode coupled with either the WNR3500 or the Asus RT N16. (I use the Asus on my Virgin line and its awesome)

For that money you can build yourself a PC based router.
There are lots to choose from but my fav is smoothwall
just check how easy to do qos/traffic management with smoothwall.

Im actually having a look at smoothwall. Wonder if it works with a Hyper-V as this seems a like a good solution to a few issues i need to sort.
