So I have just discovered that my 1TB BX100 is not an advanced format drive. Which has me pondering what the criteria is for a drive to be advanced format.

The BX100 is newer than both the MX100's I have and they are advanced format drives, so why not the BX100?

Don't get me wrong, the drive performs as it should and I doubt being advanced format or not has any bearing on my life but I just found it interesting and wondered why.

Advanced Format is a generic term pertaining to any disk sector format used to store data on magnetic disks in hard disk drives (HDDs) that exceeds 512 to 528 bytes per sector

I would argue that it's not a relevant thing for ssds.

Interesting. Like I said though, both of my MX100's (128GB and 512GB) show as advanced format.

Haven't looked at my Samsung 840 but will do when I get home.

Just pondering then, if it isn't relevant to SSD, why do the other drives show as AF? Manufacturers like to confuse us! :D

Probably marketing speel or is " technically capable " or some **** i really don't know im not clued up to much on the storage front only what i read from googles.

Yea could well be marketing speech. Like I said, doesn't make the blindest bit of difference to my system (that I know of) so I am not bothered. I just like to know WHY things are not consistent :D
