Hi guys, I was wondering if it is possible to buy something like this for around £100.

A 2 pc kvm switch with dual monitor (up to a decent resolution good enough for a couple of 24" widescreens), with a few usb ports for keyboard, mouse and some flash sticks etc. support for up to 7.1 speakers and a microphone.

As well as this, I would like to be able to switch devices independently, i.e. have one monitor on PC1, 1 on PC2, but the keyboard and mouse on PC1 and speakers on PC2.

I know this is a tall order, and it is not necessary right away, just for a little project I was planning.

If this isn't available, how easy would it be to build your own? Would it just be a case of soldering 2 sets of wires into 2 plugs, then having a switch to determine the output?

Thanks

Daven

If you were to build it yourself, the cost for the switches would be very high. Especially if you are talking about a 21 pin (ish, i couldnt be bothered to count) switch. Thats a LOT of pins to be switched and i doubt you could buy those anywhere.

The closest I can find off the top of my head won't do the sound stuff, but will do the Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor set-up you want:

http://www.kvmswitchdirect.co.uk/acatalog/DVI_Switches.html

It's the "Adder Smartview DVI Multiscreen Dual Video 2 port KVM switch", price: £797 inc. VAT. The picture for that item is the quad video, 4 port switch, your £800 would give you dual vid, 2 port, so a bit smaller.

Your requirement to have both displays showing is the biggie - all KVMs I know that have sound signal switching don't have Dual Mon/PC support.

you could do it with:
kvm
plain video switch
7.1 speaker switcher
microphone switcher

provided you dont mind having 4 switchers lying around, and you've got space for them, this is prolly the only way you can do it. (and it wont cost anywhere near £800 ^^^ ) :)
